Painting Calipers

I am going to paint my calipers red. I have the Camaro/Brembo decal set for all 4 so I'm not worried about painting over the factory printing on them. My questions are:

1. If I use a good quality high temp caliper paint will it be durable and long lasting so I don't need to continually touch it up?

2. Will the decals last without peeling/fading/wrinkling over the years of using wheel cleaner and the temperature fluctuations?

Thanks!

I've used both Duplicolor and G2 caliper paint kits. Both worked well, but I lean towards duplicolor, especially for red, which I feel was brighter than the G2 red. They clean up very easily and last a long time, however you need to be VERY careful with brake fluid when bleeding/flushing etc. etc. It'll eat through it in no time. I actually quickly taped up the calipers around the bleeder after my first mishap.

The decals should last a good while, but you won't wanna scrub them too hard. I've never used decals on calipers, but i've worked with vinyl signs, decals, wraps, etc. for 20 years and cleaning is typically the place where they first start to fail. Once an edge starts to lift, it's only a matter of time. Still, they're cheap, so if you were to replace them every now and then, it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I’m thinking of doing mine over again I am going to spray high temp clear over my decals to see how that works but the crappy cool damp weather is causing me to delay the process.

Over three years ago I used G2 to paint my calipers and then added decals I bought off of amazon. I painted over the factory brembo logos with no problem. The paint and decals look just as good today as when I added them three years and 20K miles ago.

I used High Temp Paint when I did my calipers on my 2013 SS - It held up very very well I never had to touch it up nor did it fade over the years of cleaning and very aggressive driving / braking ( I owned my 2013 for 5 years before i traded it in)

Yes if you clear coat over the decals it will work perfectly, that is what I did.

Here is a very good tutorial to follow, and is the one I used years ago when I painted mine.

Spray the paint on in heavy coats or it will not look right, watch for runs of course, very happy with mine and no issues at all.
Let the paint dry fully before you clear coat over it, or it might fog

"Will the decals last without peeling/fading/wrinkling over the years of using wheel cleaner"
That's questionable

I've been running red 1LE takeoff calipers for ~10k miles and several track days. They still look like new. I wonder if the factory red calipers are painted or powder coated? If it's paint, it is very good paint.

I have used both the dupli color and the G2 .... but two things you need to know no matter what paint you use: the first is prep. Scrub the caliper completely clean with acetone or a degreaser that usually comes with the kit. When you think they’re clean, do them again. And the second thing is all the brushes they give you with these kits really suck. Go over to Lowe’s and get yourself a good small horsehair brush that won’t leave brush marks.

No matter what the paint project is; for it to come out the best, you need to have good prep work.

I painted mine in violet candy. Looks badass, but after half a year there are some cracks. Will repaint under warranty.

I painted the Calipers on my 2011 MazdaSpeed 3 red aboout 2 years I had the car, which I bought new. I sanded and cleaned them as best as i could, then used Duplicolor red. I painted them while they were on the car. I brushed it on with a good, fine haired brush. It came out fine although the paint chipped here and there over the next 3 years I had the car. Since I had left over paint I simply touched up the chipped paint. I also painted the Calipers on my 85 Corvette a couple of years ago, except black. I removed the Calipers and sprayed them. it was much easier and came out better than the brush paint.

I followed the youtube vid I am linking here. They turned out great.
