Talked myself out of skip shift and now maybe

the catch can. Does a NA engine really need it? I guess $200 isn't bad for piece of mind but, really?

I put one on my 2004 GTO that had a full engine build (heads, cam, headers, full exhaust etc..) and never got any oil worth mentioning in it.

As for skip shift, I just start a tad harder and it's just fine.

This is sort of a contentious issue with lots of threads. My cc catches a couple of oz every three months. Weekend car.

Your going to get various and sometimes venomous debates on the catch can. I just installed one a few months ago. I figure it cant hurt so why not. I installed the skip shift day one. I couldn't stand the gear lockout when having to go slow. One of these days you will get frustrated enough to get it.

You really don’t need a skip shift eliminator because all you do is give it more gas and it goes to the next gear! I never experience it in my ZL1 because I’m pushing down on the gas pedal more. The catch can though is another story and if you feel comfortable installing one then do it! Keep in mind though some dealers void the warranty when you do install one. It’s been noted on threads in this forum.

So is it worth $200 then you have to decide. Many other folks here have them so it’s up to the individual that owns the car!

Another way around the skip shift is to let the shifter pop over to neutral as you come out of first, then shift into second. It seems like the move to neutral prevents locking out of second. When you're driving slow enough that the skip shift kicks in, the extra second to move through neutral is not even noticeable.

you ever had someone in front of you slow down and you couldnt give it more gas. ill take the skip shift. yes a catch can is needed on direct injection engines because there is no fuel to clean the valves. So every bit you remove helps.

After about 3000 miles, I had about one third of a can full in the Mishimoto. I think it's worth it.

After a few years of modern muscle cars catch cans are a religious argument in my opinion. The folks that pay for them are big supporters, the folks that don't, don't. me I choose the no catch can route. I don't drive my car so hard that I need one.

I agree, I’ve checked with the dealers in my area and didn’t get a good response regarding installing one. While people and even manufacturers on the forum will tell you that by law GM has to prove it was caused by the catch can you’re going to have to pay for a motor or repair and then fight it or leave your car at the dealer until it’s resolved. That is not an option I prefer on my car. To each his own regarding that one. It’s been beat to death here for sure.

My opinion on the catch can is it makes sense on a modded car that sees more than a bit of all out runs at high rpm. On a stocker on the street I wouldn't bother, but if you buy a nice one it looks cool and doesn't hurt. Just remeber to empty it once in a while.

As for the skip shift I agree with the OP. Chevy made it less intrusive on the CA6. It was the first mod on all my 5th gens.

Skip Shift has never been an issue for me because when I'm going that slow anyway I skip 2 and go to 3rd naturally so I don't get locked and still save gas.
