side skirt / rocker paint protection

Did the factory apply a ppf or other paint protection product--even a really heavy clear coat--on the side skirts/rocker panels? I was detailing my car and noticed an area just behind the front wheel, in the crease between the side skirt and fender, where material is built up and not smooth. Also, the bottom of the rockers look dulled, feel rough, almost tacky. Just trying to figure out how to deal with this, and it would be helpful to know what I'm working with...

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I applied some Rapid Remover to the area and tried to scrape it off, but it seems to only have made things worse, and wondering if I'm into the clear coat?

Did you try using a clay bar? I always clay bar the side skirts of my cars at least once a year. The not smooth material could be a nub from the factory paint shop. Model 3s are notorious for having ton of these, at least the early production models. Hard to know without pictures.

It's more than a clay bar could possibly remove. It's only on this one area, although the undersides of both rockers are quite dull. See photo...

I would recommend getting some rock guards and quality PPF on the major impact areas. Search the forums for ppf protection areas and what rock guards to use. Lots of threads on it.

Yup. But before I do any of that, I have to get this area repaired, and so that’s why I asked about how the side skirts are finished at the factory. Would like to know what I’m working with before I dive in.

Understood. That area does look a bit rough. For some reason I thought I read they were finished in mosaic black.
