Johnson Lifter A2148 vs 2110

I am using A2148 , but found 2110 is recommanded in this forum.

What is the difference btw these 2 lifters?

the price gap is quite big, but quite hard to find the exact specs.

That is some knock off...The only true drop in lifter Johnson makes is the 2110 and 2110r. If you want budget drop-in then a Morel MM6504 is a good option.

Thank you!

I thought they are from the same company. Now I realized one is from Johnson while another is from Hylift-Johnson.

Aron from GPI recommanded a2148, so I purchased.
Is the lifter from Morel short travel lifter? How abot the preload of it?

Thank you again.

The lifter from Morel is not short travel but is reduced travel compared to a LS7. I ran them in my 4th gen Camaro that was a 11.5:1 compression H/C/I LS1 that I frequently spun to 7200 rpm. Pre-load likes to be around .060 on a Aluminum engines.

My suggestion would be as follows: If you are keeping the RPM under 7k rpm and not using aggressive cam lobes with heavy valve springs, then the Morel will work well. Even that Hylift-Johnson may be fine( I just don't know a lot about them). If you plan on spinning higher then 7k and/or are using a fairly aggressive cam lobe with valve springs that have heavy seat pressures(400lb +), then I would spend the money on the 2110's(especially with a higher boost application).

Lifters are the most overlooked component in the valve-train. The masses seem to want to spend the least amount of money possible in this area and they are by far one of the most critical parts to a good valve-train setup. Most fail to realize that when using a high lift hydraulic cam shaft, at high rpm, you lose lift at the valve with a lifter like a LS7 because of all the plunger travel absorbs some of the push rod length as the cam lobe rotates . Even though that lifter runs to 7k rpm on a LS7 engine does not mean it's suited for most after market applications. The LS7 has very mild cam lobes, titanium valves, light weight rockers, with beehive springs. More aggressive cam lobes and dual valve springs with much higher seat pressures really change the dynamics of the valve-train and a stock LS7 lifter no longer operates like it should at higher rpm.

The only reason OEM's even offer LS7 lifters with cam kits is because it makes it easy for the end user to install since they offer so much travel.. they can soak up a lot of variance in the valve-train. Push rod length doesn't need to be nearly as precise and you can slam a generic length set of push rods in and go and it will probably run OK. However that leaves power on the table.

Short travel lifters with precise and consistent lifter pre-load across all valves will make more power and offer much better higher RPM stability, but it takes a lot more effort to achieve. With non-adjustable rockers, you either shim the pedestals or end up with different length push rods. That really narrows the market for the average mechanic at home trying to install a cam shaft package.
