ZL1 10A seat side bolster

Hello track enthusiasts:

I have an odd situation here:

I am considering ZL1 10A as my next daily/track dual purpose car as one of my boys doesn't need car seat anymore. Currently it is M3.

ZL1's front seat side bolster is not tight enough for me (as opposed to most people find them too tight). On a race track, they won't hold me securely in place.

I don't want to install a racing bucket seat because I need easy adjustability of the seat as well as memory setting because wife needs to drive the car occasionally.

What would be a good solution here?

I would get yourself a schroth 4 point harness. I had one in my M3 before i put race seats in it and it held me very well in stock seats. Surprisingly, the 1LE recaros do pretty well for me on track, however i would like to get a harness as well so i can use my hans.

I’ve seen some sort of foam padding an old dude was using in his c5z06 back in the day. He was putting in some serious lap times, but didn’t want to install seats/harness/cage or harness bar etc.

It essentially went between his legs and the center console, and other leg and the door. Kept him in place.

I think if side bolster is not secure, 4 point harness won't be that effective to keep me in place, because I would slide left and right.

No they were essentially free floating. It looked like they were likely home made. Hard to describe.picitre your self sitting in your seat....then imagine you had some larger, high density foam that was trimmed to more or less fill in much of the free areas your torso and legs slide around in during cornering. I think it was just one large pad on each side that was trimmed to fit.

I've been using a completely separate non-slacking belt made up from an old seat belt, looped around the rear of the seat bottom and over the OE 3-point, which seems to help. Also, being as relaxed as possible except for the muscles specifically involved with the controls helps (this may take a bit of practice).

Start right now eating double at every meal. By the time you get the car the seat will fit like a glove.

Before you upgrade to a 4 point, make sure it's allowed with your sanctioning body...

You could also use a CGLock

I think in a modern car you don’t need this anymore.

Adjust seat further back at first, pull the should belt to force seat belt to lock, hold it to keep it locking, then adjust seat back to normal position where both should belt and lap belt would lock tightly and securely around your body until seat belt is released.

Despite all these, without good side bolster, one can still slide under high lateral g though.
