Extra cooling for the SS & SS 1LE
I got this idea for extra cooling during summer track days for the SS & SS 1LE from the track prep guide which says (for the ZL1): remove the water deflector on the bottom side of the hood to maximize airflow and cooling.
I started looking at ways to enlarge the opening in the SS hood vents and discovered that they too have a removable water deflector which snaps off the vent housing. Here's a before and after view from the bottom side of the hood: Here's a view from the top side: (with some back lighting) The process is: 1. Carefully remove the under hood cover press in fasteners with he correct tool being careful not to damage it. 2. You can try to snap off the water deflector without removing the vents but this may be difficult and could break where they clip on if you use too much force. 3. If you do remove the vents it's a lot easier to snap off the water deflectors but there is a warning, there is a stick on thin gasket between the vent housing and the top side of the hood that could tear if you're not very careful. One of mine tore up a little and the other hardly had any damage. You can carry the water deflectors if you like for a rainy day and easily snap them back in place without removing the vents. You may have to lower the under hood cover. For car washes you may have to cover the enlarged vent opening but I'm still thinking about ways to do that. Long range plan is to have an easier method for snapping them on and off when needed. I have track day this weekend and its going to be 92 so hope this will help some. |

This idea needs more work. By removing the vents and disturbing the gasket material and by having the water deflectors removed, water and other things can get in between the hood and hood liner which can cause unknown issues. May have to keep the water deflectors in but modify them for additional airflow

I've thought about something like this myself. I'm curious to see what your final solution is. I would love to have easily removable water shields like the ZL1 1LE has.

Or buy an extra pair of deflectors and dremel away everything below the clip section. |

I didn't get a chance to test these at CoTA yet, there were thunder storms the day I was supposed to go. Got a spare used backup set of the water deflectors so wound up doing the full cutout and will try them in a couple weeks. We'll be seeing 100+ plus temps in Texas soon so hope these will help with cooling

I like this. would anyone happen to have the part number for them?
nevermind I found the numbers. It looks like you have to get them together (vent piece and water deflector) left - 23403779 right - 23403778 for those curious |

Why the hell would you do this? Has anyone actually had overtemp issues in 1LE? I know I haven't and I've beat the shit out of mine on a daily basis.
