Maintenance Costs
I’m sure this has been covered in other posts. However, I don’t know where they might be.
Can you guys that own Gen 6 ZL1’s give some insight to cost of maintenance on these cars? Like a major service where the plugs are replaced? Or does anyone have enough miles on their cars to convey that info. On the edge of getting a ZL1 or a 1SS 1LE. Thx for any help here. |

Be worried about fuel costs!
I presume you'll not be tracking the car because those costs are in another solar system.
DIY oil changes are ~$50-ish, possibly $10-20 lower if you catch the sales right (Mobil is offering a $17 rebate in May on 5qt jugs+filter). DIY diff oil and air filters much less. As for plugs, do you expect to get to 97,500 miles that soon in a ZL1? How does that old saying go... "If you have to ask... " |

Agreed. Gas mileage on a ZL1 is horrible. I had a 2010 Camaro ss before this and it sucks down way more fuel. I'm only getting 15 MPG average, which is great for a 650HP car, just will hurt your wallet. And don't even try to think you'll feather the gas to save fuel, you know you'll floor it.

GM covers your first two synthetic oil changes! Just had my second one done, so am now on my own. No other stated needs until many more milestones are accumulated, so really will come down to you: do you strictly follow maintenance by the book or do you, like almost the rest of us, go hog wild and start swapping because it I should fun, adds performance, etc. example: I swapped out the perfectly fine stock plugs at 1,500 miles with a performance set of NGK. Just drive and enjoy!

The biggest costs will be tires, fuel, and insurance. I'd get an insurance quote before looking at the car just to be sure. You could estimate the fuel costs based on 15 mpg running premium. Oil changes are only higher because it runs 10 qt of full synthetic.

I'm going to say first off, have you checked insurance between SS and ZL1? It's not trivial in the same way it's not trivial between LT and SS. Between that, fuel, entry price, and consumables, it'll be indeed in another solar system compared to the MINI, which basically doesn't wear out brakes or tires and gets brilliant fuel economy in comparison. An SS 1LE, if you don't track it [which would be a shame], will be relatively easy for maintenance as it's fairly overbuilt for a street car. Once you start tracking them, the brakes and tires budget goes WAY up. A normal ZL1 is basically a 2SS 1LE with the LT4 swapped in, with the fuel consumption and insurance premium to go with it.

“Another Mini convert”......LOL!
Thanks for the input. I only ask everyone out there just wondering. To be sure if you can’t afford it don’t ask. I’ve had Porsche’s in the past and am tired of the expense. Also I’m disabled so am not able to do the maintenance myself. Again thx everyone. |
