Anybody Powder Coated Your Wheels?

just had my brembo's painted red and the guy (friend of a friend) mentioned he uses someone that could powder coat my wheels in a gun-metal gloss grey finish. I have never seen any wheels that were powder coated and was wondering how it looks?

anybody?

thanks

Loop

I have it done for customers quite frequently and they look beautiful. A lot more durable then the crappy factory painted ones. And you have options for colors and finishes (Gloss, Matte)

I've seen plenty of powdercoated wheels that really look good and others that look really bad. My biggest concerns would be that the person doing the work understands these are aluminum wheels so the process is slightly different as far as materials and oven baking temperatures than steel. If they don't do it right, air can bubble out of the aluminum and cause pin sized imperfections on the wheel. Second concern is that the person doing the work might think you are joe schmo and will settle for low quality work. If not applied correctly, powdercoat can glob up and look too thick in places. Some forum members have mailed in wheels to shops that are really good with wheels like these and have gotten amazing results. I'd search around for recommendations. You are probably looking at $100-$150 per wheel for good work.

I've thought about getting this done at some point as I like my factory wheels. I've seen pics online and they look great. I definitely want the glossy look. Also wouldn't mind getting the calipers done in blue or red.

If done right they look amazing. I’ll never go back to paint again for wheels.

It's far superior to paint. I had my 5th gen wheels done and they held up awesome. When I bought my 6th gen with factory black paint I was disappointed after a few thousands miles and already had paint chips. Look to spend around $500 to have them done and including the cost of rebalancing.

I had my HRE FF04's powder coated from their liquid silver to their dark bronze (IPA).
My powder coater did an amazing job, and you can't tell that it didn't come that way from HRE. Check out my album if you want to see them,

Time for a shout out to Detroit Wheel and Tire. I’ve had the last two sets of wheels powder coated “black chrome”. Beautiful work!

Had my factory wheels, lugs and calipers powder coated. Look great, had them attempt to match the factory Mosaic black stripes, so in the sun you can see metal flake.

Anybody know of a good shop near Saint Louis? I am willing to travel if the job could be done in a day (I don’t know the timeline).

I did a set so I hade spare Summer/Perf tires already mounted....And my All seasons for cold weather. Bought a set of 2016 rims that had been on a race car. Cleaned them up, removed all the tape a weights and had them powder coated what was supposed to be a gunmetal grey. Came out FAR lighter than I cared for. But still....durable and they look great.

I would suggest CAREFULLY choosing from the postage stamp sized color samples. Well worth it though.
