Z/28 to ZL1 1LE
I have been looking at ZL1 1LEs over the last few weeks, thinking of trading in the Z/28 and switching over. To those that have already switched, I have a few questions that maybe you can help with... you can assume I will track it often.
Does it handle similar to or far better than the Z/28? Does the traction control and stability control handle the extra horsepower? Would you upgrade to it again? Any issues with it, or common problems? Anyone in the MA, RI, CT area, hopefully I see you at Thompson or Palmer over the Spring or Summer. |

I can't compare it to a Z/28, but I had a 2012 Z06 with the Z07 package and the ZL1 1LE handles LOADS better. There is absolutely zero body roll in this car and the steering is razor sharp. The rear is a little too high sprung in my opinion, but it doesn't unsettle the car much.
The nannies handle the extra power just fine. The Acceleration is a notch above a 06-13 Z06. Although I love my car a ton, I wont say I will upgrade to it again. I track about 10 times a year, and although its an extremely capable machine on track, I would like to enjoy it on the street from time to time between track days. On the street it is just way too damn stiff. Since you have a Z28 you're probably used to it so this will be a perfect upgrade for you. One thing I will spay is you WILL miss that LS7 Song. I know I do. The LT4 just doesn't sound as good. |

LS7 > LT4 for the soundtrack. I absolutely love the way the LS7 revs, just begs you to go all the way to 7,000RPMS. LT4 is much more torquey from the bottom all the way to the top of the RPM range. It’s not as rewarding to rev it all the way, and you make do +1 or +2 gears higher.
Z/28 vs ZL1 1LE overall I don’t really think it’s apples to apples. As I was out driving the Z/28 today I just fell in love with it all over again. It’s so simple, so raw and less refined, and much more muscular feeling than the ZL1 1LE. There are no distracting gauges, or screens, or buttons. It just wants to be driven like a hot rod. When I first drove my new ZL1 1LE, it felt much more nimble, more refined, and more razor sharp than the Z/28 with throttle input, steering inputs, etc. I also found myself distracted playing with the active rev match, looking at all the different gauges, the heads up display, etc. It almost has too many features for me to appreciate driving the car on occasion. I really like both cars. Buying the ZL1 1LE hasn’t made me want my Z/28 any less. I just want to keep both of them together now! Both cars are unique and serve their own purpose, while also meeting the same goal GM intended for them. I hope to keep them both in my stable for as long as I can appreciate them. ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I made the switch. I would again. I don’t miss the Z/28. Handles the same. Car is smaller though. Do it. First thing I did notice was how high the motor sits compared to the LS7 real low position. This car is on fire.

- Better & Faster on track same driver/same track - Yes, but still invasive @ the limit - He kept both cars, still loves his Z28, it's a tank and an amazing platform - A few minor issues have to be sorted before you track it hard -> Brake Pads -> Brake Fluid (SRF) -> Left Rear Wiring Harness needs a modification -> Rev match works awesome (no need for an autoblip)

I don't agree...the LT4 is better in every respect! LS7 has no balls compared to the LT4. LS7 does sound great.

Fully agree. If he hasn’t had both cars (Z/28, ZL1 1LE) for thousands of miles then he won’t know. LS7 not missed here.
