To Lower or not to Lower

Hey all,

Looking for some feedback as for some reason the search function is beyond my technical ability or broken......

I was wondering if I should consider lowering the ZL1, named The General.

From what I can see or have read it does not interfere with the Magnetic Ride Suspension, is this true / false

If you do think its a good idea what kits are being suggested as the best quality option. Car is brand new with less than 3 miles on it.

Thanks in advance.

The General

I have the Eibach Pro Kit on mine. Rides not much firmer than stock. No issues with the magnetic ride.

I would say no but it’s your ZL1 so you do what you think is best for you.

Which kit did you go with? And do you have any data to go with “no issues with the magnetic ride”? You’d think it would affect it some way.

ZL1

drop it...drop it...drop it....

I put on Afe at first.... didn't go low enough... 0.5 in max.. .

swapped in HR.. got about 0.75 inch plus now.. much better ...

middle finger fits in the gap....vs 3 fingers when stock

Vossen HF-5, stock ZL1 size, 20x10 and 20x11, the fronts have a custom offset though which pushes them out 5mm more than stock.

No data on the mag ride, it just works fine. Mag ride adjusts the firmness of the shocks. There's nothing magical about it.

Love the look of the red Zl1... total package.

As for mag ride it is my understanding at least from a C7 grand sport perspective that there is some impact to mag ride when you lower on springs. It changes the shock travel and compression which uncalibrates the system.

On my grand sport I went with the LG spindles as opposed to just lowering by turning the adjusters or replacing them. It kept the geometry. To level set if you dont track the car I would imagine that there would be no real negative impact on the street.

I want to lower my ZL1 but there are no spindles available and have found no real definitive data which supports it either way... just food for thought.

its only .5" drop with the Eibach springs, can't have much effect. Car handles beautifully so I don't know what negative effect it has if any.

I'll admit I'm anal about road rash and stuff under the splitter and such, but how in the Hell do you drive it lowered and not scratch on speed bumps or curbs and driveways? I'm probably just a freak about that kind of thing, but I'm curious. HA.

I think I'm just getting old...

Just drive careful and always enter and exit driveways an entrances at an angle. Speed bumps aren't an issue.

Mine is lowered on Eibach and the ARH headers tend to scrape on speed bumps if I am not very careful

Can't comment on ride before or after since I bought the car already lowered
