First Set of Tires 3,700 miles

I've done three track days, other driving a combination of highway and commute. The tread wear is uniformly uneven, the outside thread is about gone. I have a track weekend coming up on the 24th and 25th, I'm planning on getting new Goodyears before then. Thoughts on the tire wear?

Tread Depth
3-Mar-18 LF RF LR RR
Outboard 0.038 0.041 0.066 0.071
Out-middle 0.144 0.157 0.158 0.149
In-Middle 0.164 0.191 0.174 0.162
Inboard 0.161 0.166 0.173 0.158

I had alignment check yesterday
Before 2 March Left Right
Front Camber -1 -1.3
Front Caster 7.4 7.3 This is a non 1LE number right?
Front Toe 0.19 -0.02
Front Total Toe 0.17
Front Steer Ahead 0.11
Rear Camber -1.5 -1.3
Rear Toe -0.03 -0.01
Total Toe -0.04
Thrust Angle -0.01

After 2 March Left Right
Front Camber -1.1 -1.2
Front Caster 7.4 7.3
Front Toe 0.04 0.05
Front Total Toe 0.09
Front Steer Ahead 0
Rear Camber -1.3 -1.3
Rear Toe 0.07 0.06
Total Toe 0.14
Thrust Angle 0.01

On the bright side, I'm not burning any oil.

Need more front camber or your going to kill the outside edge every time at the track.

Also your latest alignment has more rear camber than front which is wrong id have them redo it and follow the track alignment specs here

Max out front camber, and follow GM recommendations for the rest. Should yield -2.2-2.6. You won’t destroy your tires on the street at that spec.

What are the standard, non-track alignment specs?

Factory 1LE is:

Front Camber: -1° ± 0.8°
Front total toe: 0.2° ± 0.2°
Front Caster: 6.9° ± 0.8° (not adjustable without adjustable top mounts)

Rear Camber: -1° ± 0.8°
Rear total toe: 0.2° ± 0.2°
Rear Caster:0
Thrust Angle: 0° ± 0.3°

If you have to pick one or the other for running both street and track use, go with the track alignment. You'll wear your tires out much faster driving the steer alignment on the track than you will driving the track alignment on the street. I'm at 4300 miles on mine with 3 track days and still have 5/32 tread depth evenly across the tire (new is 7/32). I had the track alignment done at 1000 miles.

I also second Provoste above, I was able to get about -2.3° of camber on both sides of the front on mine with the factory suspension setup. Mainly want to get as much negative front camber as you can while keeping cross camber less than 0.3°

Doesn't the outside tread block have less depth than the rest of the tire when new? I think it is still supposed to have some life left once you wear it smooth.

Is it easy to change the camber yourself or should a dealer do it? I’ve noticed my outsides are wearing quicker too

Thanks guy. I have new tires coming from the Tire Rack. I bought lifetime alignment at Firestone, and Tire Rack is shipping tires to mt Firestone store. I'm going to take advantage of the lifetime alignment deal.

OK, so Firestone says may caster is 7.4. The track caster setting for the 1LE is supposed to be 6.9 and is not supposed to be adjustable. I don't know if the normal 1LE caster is supposed to also be 6.9 or is like the 1SS at 7.4. I thought it was supposed to be fixed at 6.9.

They can only bring the front camber in to -1.2. I thought that I had read somewhere that the part of the camber was simply flipped over to get to the track range. If not how do I get there?

Thanks!

.... I don't want to judge too harshly but take it somewhere better qualified than Firestone. You should be able to get -2.1 degrees of negative camber up front with no modification.

Don't sweat the caster.
It's within specs, and as long as both sides are about the same, you are good to go.

Dropped her off at the local dealership after work. Over the phone I told them that I had a 2017 1SS 1LE and that another shop couldn't get the car to the track alignment specs. When I got there the service manager had a printout of the standard 1SS track alignment specs and was eager to show them to me so that they could correct the toe setting (not a toe issue). "Hold on, that's not right, let me get the specs out of the glove box..." He photo copied the alignment page from the performance supplement, and then highlighted the LT 1LE row. I had him cross out the LT row and highlight the 1SS 1LE row. He said that they were going to replace the camber alignment bolts with $3.70 GM bolts but they weren't eccentric bolts? He also said that the alignment is partly changed at the top of the strut and that they could align the camber and caster at the top of the strut, first that I’ve heard of that with stock parts.

Back in November, during my first visit with my 1LE at this dealership, I asked for a 5W-40 oil change. They had me walk over to the other side of the building to ask the parts department if they had 5W-40, which they didn't. The parts department sent me to another shop to get my oil changed. Today they offered to change the oil, I told me the story above. This time they said they could change the oil with 5W-40.

Wish me luck.

Wrong. Caster is no adjustable (it says that right on that page he photo copied), camber is adjusted only via the slotted upper hole on the lower strut mount. I’d stop wasting my time at the dealership if I were you. Find a local shop that understands performance alignment and setup, ask around at your next track event.

I just went over the 1500 mile break-in (no track days yet) and I've went from a new tire tread depth of 7/32 to mostly 5/32 with a few at 4/32. Basically means not even driving that hard I'm losing 1/32 per 750 miles. Can't wait to see what happens on hot summer track days at COTA
