LT1 front brake pads
I’ve been to several track days and I am looking to change my pads to something like the DTC-60. I’ve combed through so many of the threads in this forum and I must admit I’m a bit in the weeds as to the correct size pads I need. I saw a few charts that said the LT1 cars had the 12.6 rotors. However my car has 13.6/345mm rotors and the 4 piston red calipers with the torx bit fitting. Someone said that they may be C8 Z51 pads/rotors. Can anyone make sense of this? The car is an early 2022, 8/2021 build date. Thank you.

I can't help ya on your question, but, FWIW, I will say if you go to any more aggressive pad from OE, especially the DTC60s, you better have brake cooling. Honestly, if you are gonna get serious with track days, a brake upgrade to the SS 1LE brake setup would be better in the long run. Either way, brake cooling is paramount.

Thank you cdb95. I do have the CTS V cooling ducts. I have gotten hooked on the track days and plan on attending more next season, mostly at NJMP. Perhaps I will go with the 1LE six piston setup.

![]() The bigger components, add heat capacity. That is the biggest advantage of them. And you'll have more pad choices too. If there's one thing that will make track days better, it is consistent, rock solid brakes. You'll never excel at track days if you don't have confidence in the brakes.

Sounds good. Now to find a 1LE 6 piston brake package. I’ll try my dealer tomorrow. If I remember right GM accessories had a 6 piston upgrade kit for these cars.

I believe the first year(s) LT1's shared front brakes w/v6 car's 1LE package and was the 12.6 size in those charts. However, I think in some later year (maybe after v6 1LE pkg was dropped?) the LT1 started sharing SS car's front 13.6 size rotors (I have 2023 with that 13.6 size rotors same as your car). Of course, if you go up to the 1LE 6 piston front brakes package none of this will matter to you - enjoy! :-)

Thank you Batmobile. I’m leaning towards the 6piston but wow, the price…

Yes - very expensive. I believe I saw some posts somewhere on this forum that there are some aftermarket 6 piston front brake upgrade packages that are a more reasonable priced to consider?

There's used setups on Ebay. There's also an SS 1LE owner on the Facebook 1LE R page who is selling a set of fronts right now. $900. He's legit and active in many of the pages.
A dealer will rape you on price, check online. Shopchevyparts.com has GM accessories for good prices. Rockauto or Amazon for individual GM parts. Lots of info here on the forums on parts and #s. Don't use the search function here, sometimes it's wonky. Use google, type in what you're looking for and camaro6.com. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1373...15845452535517 You might have to join to see it.

I have a 24 LT1 and the front pads (red brembos) were replaced under warranty. The service paper shows they used part number 85142439, I too have the torx bolts.

I have a 22 LT1 which is my first track car, and it also got me hooked on track days. I've been dealing with some brake issues as well, so here is some of what I learned:
1. The brake rotors are 345mm. My car has a build date of 11/21 and below is the measurement I just took 2. The 4 piston Brembos are the same as the C8 with Z51 package. I kept trying to buy new brake pads that were supposed to fit the LT1, but none ever did. I started buying the pads that were supposed to fit the Z51 and those fit 3. Brake cooling isn't sufficient on the LT1. I added the track deflectors and rotor guards, but then I realized there's no airflow to the wheel well like there is for an SS. The SS has cooling ducts that catch air from the front grill and send it to the wheel well. The LT1 doesn't have those ducts, and also doesn't have the opening in the wheel well liner to allow the air in. I think this is the main reason the cooling isn't effective on the LT1 I bought the ducts online and I'm going to try to DIY the cooling system. Some part numbers attached for reference. I bought the SS ducts but can't tell you if they fit yet. I'll try to post a write up if it goes well |
