M6 AFM Exhaust valve delete
Good morning all,
I hate to be someone who posts a question to which may have already been answered, however searching isn't yielding what I'm looking for. I have a '16 SS M6 that does have the exhaust AFM valves installed. As I understand it they are not active. My question is then can I unplug and remove them without triggering a code to pop? Or do I still require the use of thise plug in simulators I had seen that EFI was making. Thanks in advance.

Wow I didn't realize any M6's came with the afm valves. If they are there and plugged in, you'll definitely need to keep them plugged in or you'll get codes. I know SW makes dummy valves on their x-pipe. Not sure who else does. I don't think EFI Tuning makes the modules any more

Yeah based on all the threads I had searched I was looking at my exhaust going wth are those even there lol. I guess my other question would be then if those do become unplugged and throw a code. Would plugging them back in allow the code to clear itself? As I understand it, the type of code it throws cant be cleared the way you typically would clear DTCs. Id like to at least test and see if the computer is monitoring them I guess :/

A8 = AFM VALVE
M6 = NO AFM VALVE .. are you refering to the NPP valve ? which is in your muffler? |

Nope, 100 percent reffering to the afm valve. I have npp as well. These are the afm valves just upstream of the muffler.

This is news to me, any pics or links to the other threads where this was proved?

yeah I can take all the pics or vid of my car right now to prove it. just not sure how to post them on here. And for background, I am the second owner but I purchased the car with 6,000 miles on it so I doubt very highly an exhaust was changed at some point or anything like that. I am happy everyone is questioning this though as the threads I hasd searched before all stating the same basic principle that M6 cars don't have the AFM ehaust valves. I'm sure I'm not the only car configured this way?

I'm with you, we know all the LT1s have AFM hardware but that's cost savings due to the Vette. But have not heard any of the M6 guys complain about replacing their exhaust. Considering the car has been out for years now, there should have been more threads. I'm pretty sure some of the exhaust companies specifically have Auto/Manual selections for picking catbacks. If you are indeed looking at AFM valves on yours, perhaps it left the factory wrong. Wouldn't be impossible, just improbable. Can you tell if the wire harnesses are plugged in? You could probably test your original concern by just unplugging one. If you get a code, plug it back up and clear the code.

Ill go take the pictures right now as best I can at work. That's a good point to see if they are indeed plugged in all the way. I noticed them in the first place when I had my car on jacks doing my PITA longtube install lol. Maybe it is possible I have a "Friday" car and they put the wrong midpipe on it.
