Weapon-X LT4 F1A-94 Procharger Vs. LT4 Whipple 2.9L dyno graph comparison

Hey guys,

It is pretty often that I am asked the question: "What is better, Whipple or Procharger?" I am a fan of both supercharger systems, and would not say one is better than the other, but will say both will out perform each other in certain aspects of performance. I really think the decision of choosing between the two systems should be based off of what you intend to do with your car and the other upgrades you will be adding as well.

Below I have listed some of the pros and cons of both systems.

Whipple 2.9
Pros:
-Instant torque and horsepower in the low rpm range.
-2-3 hour installation when replacing the OEM LT4 supercharger
-Utilizes the factory HX cooling system
-Like stock driving characteristics
-Various Pulley Combos to reach desired horsepower
-With supporting mods 1000rwhp capable
-Significantly less expensive than a Procharger
-Fits with most aftermarket LT4 engine upgrades: CAI, lower pulley, HX, HX tank, etc..
Cons:
-Maintains factory supercharger location so the unit may be subject to heat soak
-Excessive tire wear and limited traction at low speeds

Procharger F1A-94
Pros:
-Manageable HP/TQ when going WOT from a low speed
-Bracket mounted supercharger is less prone to heat soak
-Continuous horsepower increase during high rpm's
-Various Pulley Combos to reach desired horsepower
-Upgradable SC head units, F1X for example with unrivaled top end power
-Vertical flow ZL1 intercooler significantly cooler IAT's in all conditions
-Can be over spun past max rpm for increased HP/TQ in both low/high rpm's
Cons:
-Significantly less torque in the lower rpm range versus the Whipple
-Lengthier more involved installation
-Less overall torque

Below is a dyno graph overlay of the F1A-94 versus the 2.9, both were done on LT4's with almost identical mods, and the boost on both engines was right around 18psi.

Whipple 2.9:dark blue/dark red
Procharger F1A-94:light blue/light red

Thanks for the info. Not that it affects what you are trying test for, but i am curious if these were tested on a bone stock engine? I assume you changed the tune?

Both engines had our Weapon-X Complete Cam Kits installed with +32% fuel lobes, one using our Stage 2 PD-Blower cam, and the other using our Stage 2 Centri-Blower cam.

Here is a list of the other mods:
CAI
2" Longtube Headers to factory NPP mufflers
Whipple had out Triple XXX Heat Exchanger System
