cold start vs exhaust crimp sound

I'm going to say it.......The cold start for the first (5 sec) on the 2ss sounds like a combo of a plastic toy horn and a fart noise. I know the lambos and ferrrari do it too, but am I the only one willing to admit that the old-school deeper controlled start-up tone sounds much much better?

Does anyone know if removing the crimp will change sound to more of what the Gen5 sound had??

I do have a flowmaster AMT axleback, and it improved cold start a bit, (and immensely better at warm idle) but if you compare the start up to the gen5, then you know what I'm talking about.

So I understand that the exhaust crimp makes no difference in power, as per the mishimoto article below...
https://www.mishimoto.com/engineerin...he-crimp-myth/

BUT does anyone know if makes a difference in sound?

Have to disagree. I LOVE the cold start. Wish the exhaust always sounded like that

My '16 2SS sounded great at startup; it did have dual mode exhaust. I did test drive a non-NPP SS and it did not sound anywhere near as good on startup.

Part of the start up sound is cat warm up. I think it pull a bunch of timing or something to heat up the cats. If you turn that off it starts like a normal car. You really notice the sound with no cats.

yes with a tune, since the tune my car cranks up like a normal car, none of that tinny raspy startup and then calm,it just cranks and is calm.

Im so glad you know what Im talking about! Can you give details more on what tune, or how to make it start up without that "tinny rasp"/cold horn fart sound? Just crank and calm is all it should be-basically warm start sound on a cold start. Help!

From what I can see the only timing modifier at cold ECT is just cranking spark? unless I'm missing something, I don't see any timing modifiers for cat lightoff. Now there is start of injection timing modifiers for cold start?

I agree, I think the exhaust is way too loud for a stock exhaust at startup, it also sounds pretty bad to me. I love the way it sounds when the valves are partially open at half throttle, but at WOT to me the NPP sounds pretty bad, raspy and annoyingly loud.

No..I have been saying it all along. Some say it doesn't have the old school sound because its an aluminum block and not iron. I say not the case but some of it is the VVT cam timing and maybe the firing order, and port FI. If it were do to it being an aluminum block then the 69 ZL1 which also came with an all aluminum block would also have a similar sound. But the old ZL1 also has the old school rumble. Also a lot of the old school car came with fiberglass packed mufflers. I have yet to hear any of ours with packed mufflers. Most performance mufflers for our cars are just hollow chambered mufflers which I think gives it the hollow sharp raspy sound that sounds like shidt when sitting in one spot just revving it, but sounds totally different and pretty good when going down the road under load especially when shifting through gears in a stick. Also listen to one of our cars with a performance cam upgrade. You will see its starting to have the old school rumble. So to sum it up I would say its sound is mostly do to our hollow exhaust and camming.

Is the NPP exhaust hollow? I thought I saw pictures of someone cutting open an NPP muffler on a corvette and there being fiberglass packing in it?

I completely agree, it sounds really good at mid throttle under load, but at WOT or startup sounds pretty bad and unrefined.
