Garage Queen Washing

A buddy of mine has a garage queen..is a bucket and hose ever needed..or stick to only waterless wash. We were wondering what other garage queen owners do?

Rinseless, much safer than waterless, read the how to in my sig......note :this is a procedure, not a magic product sold on TV.

Depends what is on the surface.

If it's just the normal surface dust you usually get, here's a simple and easy procedure that works well. Rag Company Everest 1100 towels work great with this method.

Worthless fight… They both work well… So many of these products have a 1 to 2% difference , frankly I've never seen any Rinseless that doesn't work well, but the echo has silica and it therefore I give it the edge.

Here's what I have used:
Ultima
Blackfire
Turtle wax
Wolfgang
Duragloss
Ech20

Agreed. Would also add the technique you use is by far more important than the product. Lot's of people have used a CD and waterless wash for light dust removal, don't use it properly, and scratch up their paint.

Same with rinseless. If your garage queen has some medium level dust, or light dirt on it, use the rinseless instead.

Here's a great video for technique. Roll the towel as you wipe. This picks up the dirt without dragging it across the paint. As always use very light pressure.

Rinseless would be perfect for your situation, I recommend Carpro Ech20 and soem high quality MF towels, 500 GSM and above.

Thanks Joe.
I always use Waterless Wash on my garage queens, after every drive and if they just set and get dusty I will do a Detail Spray wipe down.

Philosophy:
Best way to protect the paint: Never let dirt touch the paint (films).
Next best way to protect the paint: Make it as easy as possible to get the most dirt off the car without touching the car (coatings and sealants).

Before you wash it:
Spend the $$$ to have it professionally paint protected including a full detail + full paint correction. Spend as much as you can tolerate on self-healing film, ideally on the whole car. Then you never have to worry about swirls. Quality of Installer > choice of film.

Ceramic coatings are next best, hydrophopic sealants like Reload at a minimum and can be applied to all of the above. If you have a semi-permanent hydrophobic coating on top of the ceramic coating, cut the reload 3:1 or 5:1 with distilled.

What I do:
  1. Only in the shade and on a cool car...
  2. Pressure washer rinse.
  3. Pressure Washer + foam cannon + Adams car shampoo, soak a minute or two, but do not every let it get dry.
  4. Pressure washer rinse.
  5. 2 bucket grit-guard wash with Adams car shampoo.
  6. Wheels first. Have 4 brown cheaper MF towels, one per wheel and only one time in the soap (dirtry MF towels go straight to the dirty pile, not back in either bucket).
  7. Wash mit top to bottom, lots of suds and water. Only the weight of the mit on the car (no pressure).
  8. Hose or PW rinse.
  9. Final hose rinse without a nozzle (let surface tension pull water droplets off).
  10. Blow dry with leaf blower.
  11. Waffle weave dry the wetter areas (like where water pools on the trunk lid), windows, door jambs, trunk, under trunk lid, under tonneau cover, front grille, etc.
  12. Plush 500 weight MF Towel dry the exposed paint surfaces with 5:1 diluted Reload with a 2nd MF towel to remove any streaks. Inspecting and turning often.

Between washes, all wash towels go in the clothes washer on their own and dried w/o fabric softener, then are stored in ziplocks.

On the road: I keep a spray bottle of 5:1 diluted reload & ziploc'd plush MF towel in the trunk to remove bugs, etc. off the PPF, and as a quick detailer before a show.
