V8 Exhaust options for V6 ?
Trying to figure out the difference between a v8 axle back and a v6 axleback anyones input is appreciated .. Is there actually a difference or are these exhaust companies taking advantage of some marketing strategies?

V8 has larger diameter piping you will need to weld or clamp in an adaptor.

Careful, putting big pipes on a V6 can make it raspy.

Sound quality can be worse... but sound is relative to the individual...some may like it some wont.
Performance suffers when using too large of a pipe size. It stagnates flow. Granted most people on the forums aren't into performance, they just want sound/noise. but just using basic logic, and seeing how long it took companies to put exhaust on the market, they did a lot of testing and pipe size is apart of the testing. they used the optimal size for each given engine. and some companies offer drone elimination, which is cool.

You may want to just have a shop fabricate a custom set up for you usually less than the cost of an axle back.

I did exactly this on my 4th gen without issue. Worst case you will need to use an adaptor as mentioned earlier. But you can only do an axle back.

I put an SS MBRP in my 1lt. SS Pipes are 2.75" and v6 are 2.25" I believe (might be 2.5") but the guy at the muffler shop didn't seem to care much. Just welded in a piece are metal stock and maybe charged me an extra $20 (total install was $80) but so worth it.
It's a lower exhaust note puttering around town and WOT sounds absolutely great. Hope it help somebody |
