What are the best things to log for tuner hp??

I'm in the process of learning and setting up hptuners. What are the best things to log? Best things to setup in graph? Best things in chart vs time?

I think that would depend on your mods? If your're stock theres not much power to be gained through tuning. I'm still in the process of learning the gen V stuff but it is all torque based meaning it reads the accelerator pedal, then looks at a pre defined table that tells it a torque to command based on the accelerator pedal. It reads a lot of other sensors and lookup tables then decides how much torque to make the engine produce.

It varies the engine torque mainly by electronic control of the throttle blade, and when it needs to control torque finer and faster it varies timing. So right there the first thing would be to make sure the throttle blade is max at WOT and timing is good. The hard part is understanding all the torque pids in HP Tuners between desired, predicted, and immediate torques. I haven't been able to make much progress. I can't even thoroughly check to make sure my throttle blade is all the way open with all the throttle pids.

Start here, unfortunately I wasn't able to get much out of it as it seems the 6th gen E92 is setup a little different and its a little vague in places. Its also unfortunate that this stuff isn't documented, if it is someone has put the work into finding out about it, and then its a business.

Anyway here is the link:

Good luck to you, and really without the correct tools, load bearing dyno, wideband O2s, pressure sensors, a good empty place to tune at, you're really just guessing.

The best things to log are what your tuner asks you to log. If your tuning it yourself and asking these questions you should probably start reading a little more first and you will slowly start to figure out what's really important. Side note: buy a wideband or you will drive yourself insane

The "Driver Demand" tables are where some of the best throttle improvement gains are at, but as said they are not easy to read/understand and modify.

Since the LTx engine came out the tuning process has gotten more intense, so many other tables and things that all rely on each other for the tune to work correctly.
