Thunderhill 3 Mile
Did the Hooked on Corvettes event yesterday.
Mostly corvettes out there - but a few Camaro's and others. In this video I was right on a ford GT350 and could have passed him. He was faster in the straights - but not in the corners. Super fun day! |

Driver mod, you. Nice. Some suggestions . . . unless you're particularly interested in reviewing your footwork (which might be a valid reason) use spot metering and a narrower field of view. That ought to keep the view out the windshield from being as washed-out. Please - no music. It's the sounds your car makes that are always in step with what you're doing and making the car do that matter the most. I wouldn't want to hear my favorite song ever while watching a track day video, let alone somebody else's pick. Norm

Yeah, +1 on the music. Save that for a music video. I want to hear the sounds of racing.

+1 on music. When I hear music overlayed I immediately lose interest. 1+ on the cam position as well. Keep on tracking tho

I was trying to make it up there but no spots were open for me :( thunder hill is a fun track and it seemed like perfect weather today! I'm gonna hit up Sonoma tomorrow for an autocross with sf speed bc I can't find any HPDEs that work with my schedule .. ugh.

It's not overlaid. I play music cause it amps me up. I'm doing a different mic set up next time so y'all can hear the car, and I can listen to music.

I know that my best sessions are those where they feel almost like an easy, quiet drive in the country except maybe 50% - 60% faster (and double the g-loadings). Being relaxed beats high-strung, especially for longer sessions. You won't be as worn-out when the session checker flies. Norm

But I got info from evanescense on how to do a remote mic set up - so I'm doing that before the next track day. |

But I gotta agree with Norm completely: not hearing the smallest of sounds while pushing not only prevents you from being "one with the car" for certain, but also can spell trouble should you have a mechanical failure and not spot it as early as you could otherwise. You may think you're better off with music now, but that's like learning a bad technique *on purpose* with a new sport because it is "easier" or seems "better". It may for a novice level but eventually it hinders progress to higher levels. That's for certain for any sport and ours is no exception. Something for you to consider as you progress thru your development as a driver. Have fun out there! |

Hey bud, I was there as well. I left the Camaro behind in favor of the C5 Vette since it was, after all, a Vette day. What run group were you in?
Music: I'm not gonna bust your balls. I get the desire for it. I will say though that having a quiet environment is not just for your driving concentration but it is a necessary sensory tool as well. It helps with peripheral awareness. Kind of like running with windows down is not just for safety against breaking glass. As you climb through the classes you may agree that it is helpful to hear that ACR climbing up your backside and which side he is going to pass, with or without a point-by.
