MyLink after remote start?

I searched the forum and found a few MyLink issues, but nothing quite like this, so I figured it was time to start a thread.

After using remote start on my '17 2SS Fifty, some of the information on the MyLink isn't displaying. When I change the temp on the climate control, instead of showing up on the MyLink display, it's just a black bar. Also, several of the menu options (Vehicle Management) just don't show up at all, and I can't do things like change the lighting.

Anyone experienced something like this before? Know a fix? Possible software update?

I have had all sorts of things happen occasionally when using remote start. Sometimes my link doesn't come up at all, sometimes the gauges don't come up, I just turn off the car restart it, and it's fine. I'm not even worried about it, And certainly wouldn't take it in for this.....

Oh, for sure. I've learned to just turn it off and back on and it works just fine. Just wondering if anyone knows the "why" behind it. I break software for a living, so it piqued my curiosity.

I suspect a remote start can cause this issue if the vehicle shuts off right before you get in and you have to restart the vehicle.

I had a new HMI module installed by the dealer recently which is a whole new part # by GM with newer revision firmware apparently. I haven't had any weird sort of issues with the MYLink system after using remote start since. It's only been a few weeks so I don't want to proclaim this has fixed the issues yet.

I was having "Driving Mode" and "Lighting" disappear 3 out 4 times that I used remote start. I was also having the strange black bar pop up when changing the A/C controls often. I plan to keep using remote start as often as I can and see if it still causes issues. By the way, my HMI module died which is why I got a new one. I had to wait 6 weeks for it on top of that. GM did a goodwill by giving me $500 in free accessories. So don't think you can just run down to the dealer and demand replacement lol.

Not sure if the remote start is the cause, however, my my Link just recently started glitching. It wouldn't let me use the touch screen (buttons were still functional) for about 5 minutes. And now it just started clicking random parts of the touchscreen on its own changing the stations. This is all intermittent and will only happen for about 5 minutes and turning car off and back on does nothing.

I've always had the issue of the HVAC bar showing info intermittently on display.

I have an appointment tomorrow to fix some paint chipping on my deck lid corners and will bring this issue up since it'll be there overnight anyways

Welp I jinxed myself. I used Remote Start today and the Mylink had the same issues.

I had my car in at the dealer last week and brought this up. My service adviser printed up a bulletin that stated that GM is aware of this issue, and are working on a software update fix. Specifically:

"Some customers may comment that, when selecting HVAC control settings, the HVAC responds correctly but the selections are not displayed on the radio (HVAC pop-up is blank). Customers may also comment that various Climate and Air Quality, Collision/Detection Systems, Comfort and Convenience, and Lighting selections are intermittently missing from the radio Settings menu. Either concern will last for an entire ignition cycle and will require a 5 minute ignition cycle for operation to return. "

"Please communicate to the customer that we apologize for this inconvenience and that General Motors is working on a solution for this concern. Once a solution is available, this PI will be updated with additional details - allowing dealership personnel to contact the customer to schedule a service appointment and repair the vehicle. "

Interestingly enough, it's not just all vehicles that use the Chevy MyLink listed on the bulletin, but also models of GMC, Buick, and Cadillac as well. Seems like a widespread GM issue.

Yeah, I'm not terribly worried about it. It's clearly a software bug that can be fixed. It's just a minor annoyance.

For the time being, I'm just not using the remote start.

It's specifically after using remote start and then getting into the car and hitting the Start button so that you can drive the car. That is how everyone has to use remote start.

Anyhow, I've had it happen when not using remote start but its not very often at all. However, when using remote start it happens often. Seems less often after my HMI module replacement but still happens.

If you are not using the remote start feature that is only on the A8 cars then maybe you don't notice it since it would happen much less often.
