EFI Tuning / Kooks Custom Headers

EFI Tuning LLC is proud to announce we are now a dealer for Kooks Custom Headers!

We will be installing, tuning, and testing out a set or two of long tube headers in the upcoming weeks. As with some other modifications there is conflicting information about actual gains with long tube headers on the LT1 platform. We will be taking our usual analytical approach to provide the community with unbiased facts/results.

LTs are the last piece to the bolt-on puzzle. We will be testing with E85 on the dyno and at the track. I feel some 10s coming!

Please let us know if you have any questions! I'll be updating the website soon. For now just shoot me a PM if you want to purchase.

Thank you,
Tim

Yea, lots of conflicts around here. Another test would be cool. I will say Teds results are pretty much in line with my ET improvements if the old adage 10HP = .1 ET drop. Roughly 40 HP with the CAI-MSD-LT combo. Around .4 gain. So my LTs were worth perhaps 1.5 of that. 10s NA!!!!

Now can you figure out a way to get M6es there without H/C?

Great question. I will work on that over the next couple of days. If you need something ASAP please PM or call me.

I didn't coat my C7 headers but if the community has recommendations or preferences please post here.

Thank you,
Tim

I was told coating really helps underhood temps. My cool downs seem about the same as stock. This is a tight engine compartment compared to the last gen Camaros. There are probably other opinions. Any drawbacks besides cost?

The Hookers make LTs more of a DIY on this car. Nice.

Functionally not that I'm aware of. The coating back in the LS1 days looked great new but didn't seem to hold up particularly well. I don't know if they have improved much or not. I debated this heavily when I was doing them on the C7 and decided it just wasn't worth it for me.

Excellent. Everything coming into place. I'll have a very similar setup to the car you are testing. Got some kooks coming. Good luck get that tuning dialed

I'm not ready to pull trigger yet but kooks headers are on my list. I've been told that I should get coated because of reduced heat in engine bay. This came from a local speed shop, probably just trying to up sell me but it made sense...

If all goes well we will have a set of 2" with cats on my car by next weekend. I will also be doing dual 3" electric cut outs pre AFM valves. That will allow us to see what the headers and cats are worth by themselves and what they are worth if you went with a cat back. I like the stock NPP but would like a way to bypass it. We are going with 2" for my set up since I will be going with the blower eventually.

As usual, we will be dyno and track testing the headers. There is another track rental on the 21st that I will be at if the weather holds. Hopefully some high 10.7's will be in my future. I am trying to get my converter and rear replaced early next week at the dealership. I also found some more power on my set up with more snout work on the IM and some more work on the back of the TB. I gained 5/7rw with the extra work. Those combined should be worth a 10th or so before the headers.

Can LT's be installed with the stock cats or is it necessary to swap out for after market cats?

Make sure you add these details to my IM and TB in the future

whats wrong with your converter? I thought you only had a rear end problem?

are they covering under warranty even with mods? my dealership did with my truck...

The factory primary cats will not work.

I did mine before yours. You got a bit of the snout stuff. I didn't do the back of your TB though. It was an experiment on my stuff. I took it to the limit of sanity to see what would happen. I actually had to do a little plastic welding and still couldn't do everything I wanted in side of there. All in all it isn't worth the risk and time to get it all out like I did to mine on out going IM/TB combos. We are talking a couple hp/tq on average. I still say the real restriction on these motors is the TB. I took as much out as I could without effecting the blade travel area. There is barely any plastic left before the O ring seal. Besides, I have to stay on top some how.
