Throttle Response and Tire Pressure Questions

1.) Is the Sport mode setting suppose to have better throttle response than track mode!? My Sport mode feels way better when it comes to throttle response.

2.) Anyone have any issues with the TPMS reading low on their car? My dash says the tires were at like 28 and 29 psi. When does the indicator kick on? I get no low tire pressure warning? So i pumped them up using an electronic pump to 35 psi. The TPMS on the car now reads 32-33 psi.

As to question 1 I can only guess the difference would be how the computer manages the traction control and shift points. Someone with more knowledge will surely chime in here.

As to question 2, I use a very good (for it's size and price) digital gauge made by ACCUTIRE that reads to nearest 1/2 lb. I pumped my tires in the garage after they set overnight to 35 and then drove it on a hot day for a few miles. I had three reading 35 and one reading 34 (on the dash) but I think it might have been in shade more than the others. After a bit more hard driving three were at 37 and same lowest tire was 36 so I'm guessing it might be a less than accurate sensor. But I know it at least and by how much.

You can find variations of this brand on line and in the auto parts stores with prices from less to many 'times' more just depending on how much gauge you want to buy. I actually found mine in the auto parts store in Sears one day when I was there and if I remember right it was around $35. I never looked back.

1. I find track mode to have the most linear throttle response - tour is way too delayed and sport feels like it's tied to pedal speed as well as position to determine how much of the throttle body to open - at least on the 6MT. Track mode at least tries to be consistent with the relationship between pedal position and throttle opening, even when it has a slight delay. I drive in track mode all the time, just change my exhaust and suspension settings for the conditions.

2. Not sure about that - I haven't had any issues with TPMS, stock or the two ebay sets I currently have.

Tpms warning light will come on when there is a 6 psi diffrence between tires. Your dealer or
Tire center can ck and recalibrate the sensor. . Using nitrogen in your tires will keep the psi more stable between hot and cold temperatures

If you want to get real critical get a digital tire gauge and use the kpa setting and inflate to 241.3 = 35 psi at cold. I use the Chevy app on my iPhone to keep a eye on tire pressure and it seems to be bang on. To me sport mode does everything different, shifting is a lot different and even the exhaust sound seems to be more pronounced, I my self drive in sport mode most of the time as I feel it gives better responce, sound, shifting in most driving conditions. But I do love track mode as everything tightens up and the car is extreamly planted.

OP: I cannot tell from your post if you have a quality tire pressure gauge. If not, consider investing in a quality tire pressure gauge. Something from Longacre or such. A good dial gauge with pressure release will run $30-45 and up. Pick ur poison. I would not rely just on TPMS for maintaining tire pressure.

Check tires cold to see the true/cold pressure. Even tires sitting in direct sunlight can have a high reading. Or check right after driving if you want to see if TPMS is close to accurate.

If you have to drive for tire air, just check cold and remember (write down) how much you want to add to each tire when you get to the air.

30 dollars just for a tire pressure gauge? seems expensive.

You get what you pay for, but the more expensive tire gauges do more than just measure air. The one that I use is about $35 and automatically beeps when it reaches its maximum pressure so you don't have to worry about trying to get it on and off the valve,..... and to fill the tire, you put in about 40 pounds at a gas station, then with the Gauge on the valve, you have a button allows air to escape so you can dial right down into the pressure # you want as it comes down. Much quicker and more accurate then the stick gauges that are five bucks, that require you to put some in , let a little out, put some in , etc....until you get the pressure you want. This is the quick way race teams do it.
