2016 1SS Stereo Problems/How to improve?

My first post here, so here we go. I tried searches, to no avail.

I love my car. I am sure we all do. I have learned to live with the limited reclining angles that our seats have. So I am moving on to issue number two.

The stereo, and the sound it produces. I cannot find any information on the stock amp, (how many watts, x how many channels) the stock speaker sizes, etc.

The radio does not sound like any sound is being played through the rear speakers......What limited sound that does come out seems to be without any bass, until you have the head unit pretty much close to maxed out.

Now this is not a mindless rant, just trying to see if I am overlooking something, or if I need to develop a serious plan.....

my old truck was an F150 supercrew XLT and in comparison had a phenomal sound!

Welcome to Camaro6...

Your 1SS comes with a MyLink system. Unfortunately, this is something you can't get rid of or, at least, get rid of easily. Many options are selected through the MyLink interface and I don't think it would be worth it for somebody to take the time and money to design a replacement. With that being said, the MyLink outputs to a factory amp. This amp is located in your trunk, where you would normally find your spare tire or inflation kit. I'm not sure if anybody has specs on this factory amp but, considering it's a factory amp, it isn't much. I'm sure you've come to the same conclusion as most that our factory setups (yes, I have a 1SS myself) really aren't that bad but, they sure could use a bass boost. No worries, we've taken care of how to do this for you. Here is a link to the guide I created on how to add a subwoofer to our 1SS's. At some point, I plan on swapping out the front speakers but, it won't be any time soon. Perhaps somebody will put a guide together for that before I do. Maybe you'll be the brave soul to tackle it. If not, one will come along eventually. Until then, use my guide and add some bass to your setup. It should tide you over until we get the rest sorted out.

As for your rear speakers, they're pretty much useless. Once you get a sub installed, just adjust your fader control to all front speakers.

We have rear speakers in a 1SS? Hahaha....
Radio sounds pretty good to me, when the volume is past halfway. Wish there was just more sound from the back.
I am useless when it comes to audio work and I am afraid to know what it would cost to pay a shop to add a sub.
How about just adding some real speakers back there?

I agree with both of you.

1. I will tackle putting a Subwoofer in the trunk, via your protocol. Haven't done this since high school........back in 00' lol.

MTX, Rockford Fosgate, JL still the brands to go with?

2. The rear speakers are evidently useless, as stated. I made some improvements by moving the fade one click forward, +3 Bass, +2 Treble.

I believe there is only an amp in the Bose system the non Bose systems do not have an amp in the trunk. I replaced my factory speakers with alpine r's and added a 5 channel amp with a small 10 inch sub in the trunk. Now it sounds nice and crisp and has great sound without rattling car to pieces.

At lesthe most of you all have the nice 8" system. From what I've been told that if you got the basic 7" system you're pretty much screwed for any upgrading. Starting to regret buying this car at least ford's 4" screen can be upgraded to a 8" system plug and play and retain all functions.um...

Does anyone know the impedance of the speakers in the 1SS and/or 2SS? 2ohm, 4ohm?

There is definitely an amp in the 1SS non bose. It is in the same location just a little smaller and not controlling rear deck speakers. That is what the Bose system adds. I would not be surprised if the only difference between the bose and non bose is those rear deck speakers adding a little more bass into the system.

On my Bose, I have adjusted my fader -2 in favor of the rear to get more of an even surround sound. I have my treble all the way up, and bass + 1 or 2

I find it amazing how difficult it is to find out what the stock system really is for the 1SS.

I would have assumed some specifications would have been known at this point.

What I have gathered at this point,

1. The amp, has an unknown amount of channels, pushing an unknown amount of watts, at an unknown impedance.

2. There seems to be six speakers, however it is unknown what sizes they are, if they are two-way, three-way, strictly mid-range, etc.

If I knew some more variables I may vie to insert some 6x9's into the back deck lid.........

3. Something else to consider, is there any noise cancellation or volume limiting to this system?

4. Are there any crossovers going to any of these six speakers?

I have never seen a vehicle in my life that has so many things that are non-researchable. At least from sitting at a desk. Between this, the windshield-AC problem, and the seat not reclining, its getting hard to brag on this car when people ask about it.

Yeah.............it will run, when it doesn't want you to shift from 1st to 4th, which with the manual even happens a very good bit. Starting to turn into a regretful purchase.....

Using the search button up top will answer all those questions that you have asked. Granted there not in one post all layed out for ya, but spend a little time searching and you'll find what you need.

I have done just that. Still always welcoming to have a seasoned member come in and point out, that search is still a popular forum option, even when it does not yield results.

Did not and am not trying to be a dick by saying that, but i have used the search button repeatedly since getting my 2016 and most of the time gotten what i was looking for. The speakers are regular single voice coil 6x9s rear deck and front door. Rear side speakers are 5" and the front dash i believe 3". all 2ohm. and yes i know the 1ss does not have rear deck speakers. amp output power, not sure but the same amp is also used in multiple other GM vehicles and has been for a few years. So power output might be able to be found in other forums. I would guess no more then about 300 watt maybe . ANC is present and varies by model and stereo system. 1ss and 2ss has it. 2lt does not and not sure on 1lt or the models with 4 banger in it. No typical cross overs. It is all done digital in the amp. so yes it has crossovers but not a typical ones. Everything on my amp i figured out by testing and messing with it. If not i would have been waiting awhile.
