$500 call-out from my own little brother...smh
Ever since i picked up my new camaro i think my little bro and his buddies have been a little peanut butter and jelly. They like to bust my balls over it and hardly ever have anything good to say about. They always make fun of it and say its slow and then compare it to their all-out drag only race cars that they say "could" be driven on the street. I usually just ask them where their cars are at now and when they say at home in the garage or on the trailer, i just point to mine sitting in the parking lot.
However recently, my little bro has been building this S10 that he plans on using as a true (and finally, a more comparable) street car. Its a 2000 xtreme reg cab short bed, full interior, with a 5.3 and 4l60e. Hes done some work to the motor and recently had it tuned and dyno'd. It put 315hp/315tq to the wheels... pretty good for mild 5.3. As of now, hes running a stock converter, 3.42, gears, stock 7.5 10 bolt, MT drag radials and a set of homemade cal-tracs. Hes never had it to the track yet. We're both members of a small local friends and racers facebook group to which he used as platform to call me out for a $500 race at the local dragstrip this wednesday. What do you guys think i should do with the money? should i keep it or give it back to him since he's my brother? Or maybe i could use it to buy him some more parts so its a little closer the next time we race.... hmmm... anymore ideas?

Buy a set of drag radials for the SS and give the rest back to him.
My brother had the same year S-10 extreme new with a 4.3 and a blower, should be about equal power to his, race should be a cake walk unless he hides a bottle with a pretty good shot on it. 5.3 will make good power with a simple cam swap and some go spray.

Please update us on the outcome and don't leave us hanging like both do. Want to know how your brother reacts to the spanking.

He called you out
He set the price I would take it and chalk it up as a life lesson, the money stays in the family

Tell him he has to race you in his s10 for $2,000 on an autocross course, since it's a street car and all.

Does your little brother think this would be a drivers race? His truck I am going to guess is about 3400 lbs. in stock form with an iron block 5.3l. He will need a 150hp nos shot which can easily be done. Good burn on new slicks and dialed in will compete. If he does not have any NOS you should blow his doors off.
Can you post a video? That would be awesome. |

He has a 99 Camaro SS that was going 11.80's full weight with a converter, 4.10's, built 4l60e, and slicks with 365 whp. His thinking is that an S10 thats down 50hp, 3.42's and stock converter but 400ish lbs lighter should be able to run at least low 12's. I told him id be impressed if it ran 12's period.

Even if his truck does win your Camaro is still a ***** magnet and his beater truck isn't.

Your brother is making fun of your new camaro and he has an s10? Embarassing..If you want a drag truck like that you need to find a syclone or hold your tongue imo. Why anybody would ever chose to setup a vehicle with no weight over the tires for racing is beyond me honestly. My family has an s10 beater that gets shared and even if it had 1000 hp and a solid gold engine I wouldn't think it was worth bragging about..

I think it's probably more like the teen next door. Can't afford to buy the out of box muscle like your beast, so they build them from something much less refined or powerful and at the end of the day think that because they have this built up car it must be faster than your stock car. I call it jealousy, but that's just my two cents. I'd say push hard and show him that your car is in another league and then use the money toward something for your car, even if it's something Non performance related like the SS floormats.
