Touchless Car Wash

Hi everyone.

I picked up my Camaro 2SS convertible last Saturday. It's getting a little dirty now and I was wondering if it was safe to take it to a touchless car wash (like Petro Canada)?

For the people living in Toronto/GTA, do you have any other suggestions for a nice car wash?

It is totally safe to use a touchless carwash occasionally, but if you do it long term ,every week, you will end up with some paint contamination, as the way that a touchless gets your car cleaned is by using very strong soaps, not good for the paint surface in the long run.

The soaps will take its toll on the top before the paint. Use a good top cleaner and protectant like RAGGTOP....... Google it

Thanks Glen. I will definitely take a look at RAGGTOP.

This being my first convertible, I was just worried that taking it to a car wash (with strong water jets) might produce leaking.

Personally, I wouldn't use a carwash with a convertible, I would have concerns with any damage to the top's material with the pressure and the soaps that are used.
I've actually seen special soaps made for convertible tops, to help maintain the quality of the material.

Just my opinion.

SQUALO,

Yes, that's exactly what I am worried about. Would you recommend any places in downtown Toronto where I can go and wash the car myself?

I agree.

My last car was a '12 Mustang GT vert.

On the driver's side near the back, the top was tearing slightly. Had to pay almost $200 to get it fixed.
Also, the carwash soap almost seems to embed and discolour the top; It took away a lot of the deep black colour of the cloth convertible top.

Unless it's a once-in-a-while thing (to get the undercarriage cleaned, etc.), I'd avoid the car wash at all costs.
