Matte black or low gloss black
I'm having my wheels dipped tomorrow. Should I go with matte black or low gloss? Car is regular black.

Semi/low gloss...
Too flat and too shiny doesn't work as well, right in the middle does. |

On my last car, I did four coats of black plastidip and two of graphite metalizer. It looked great but I would have preferred a little more gloss and a little more metallic. I never got any glossifier though to try to change it. I'm with Glen E, I think an anthracite color would look pretty sweet. Maybe even a pearl. Definitely post some pics when you are done. My favorite part of plastidip is that it's peelable and not too expensive so if you don't like it, you can easily revert back and start over. The downside is I felt like I had to reapply the metallizer every 6 months to keep it looking fresh

How well does the plastidip hold up on rims? Just curious. Thinking of getting the $200 splitspokes, and doing them black. Not interested in spending $2000 for the black splitspokes. OP, show us some good pics when your done!

I would do a high gloss, easier to clean and will look great with your car. I agree with above, matte black will look dirty even when clean. Gloss can be waxed and look bitchin when going down the road. Just my opinion since I've had both. My winter wheels for my truck are matte black and I can't wait to take them off after winter is done.

plastidip "waxes" with their own spray or Armour all extreme shine for tires -works well. I am lucky, South florida has the only factory store so I go over for advice. Mind you the products don't give you a shine, just a clean look.
PD's product is called "dip coat" this is anthracite PD, 3 coats, then 2 coats glossifier and then dip coat:

![]() Finished. Very surprised how easy it was. Ended up leaving it matte. Still have the glossifier if I change my mind. |
