AWD muscle car

Just curious:
With muscle cars making so much power that cars like the hellcat are actually faster starting in second gear...
Does anyone know if Ford or Chevy has been considering or experimenting with the AWD systems like ATTESA?
Separate question:
Is that something you would consider a welcome upgrade on a camaro or something you wouldn't want to see the car with?

ive often wanted it just for winter DD... but with the ability to turn it off. Your best bet is a GTR which isn't necessarily a muscle car, and you will probably want to go used.

I remember it on the R34. I figured it would have made it to high end muscle cars years ago, but I was obviously very wrong.
It would be nice to have the ability to turn on and off, like only having it engaged when in competition mode.

You can find an AWD 2014+ E63 AMG S in the 60's, that's an AWD muscle car.
If it breaks things can get expensive.

A couple of things to think about.

The Hellcat only needs a start 2nd because it was crappy undersized tires for it's power.

Adding an AWD system built to cope with that power may improve it's launch but would actually slow it down in the 1/4. AWD adds a lot of weight. AWD to handle 700+ HP is a lot of cost. In the end you up with a car which costs more than the Hellcat does already, with worse straight line performance. A better rear suspension setup with bigger tires would yield much better gains.

Systems like ATTESA manage power output to wheels. It doesn't overcome the downsides I explained above. They are great systems to have and better than AWD setups without that kind of computer management. A lot of drag Skylines completely ditch the AWD setup to go straight RWD. It just isn't needed for going fast like that.

Ford has an pretty good AWD system for the Focus RS. Not seen a domestic GM one since they aren't really into rally, but I think Opel does have something similar. Someone can probably confirm that. Either way, limited market for AWD over here, primarily for winter driving. Something you won't see many sport coupes doing (i.e. sport coupe snow plows lol).

Okay, I'll bite as this seems like the first thread he has made on this subject so far...

One of the key elements of a muscle car is RWD, that should be pretty obvious.

AWD has one small advantage, better traction off the line. It adds weight, takes away steering feel, adds more forward weight bias, and adds complexity. That all hurts in the end.

Good example here. Two of the exact same cars and they are autos, so it takes the driver out of the question. AWD gets the jump, and gets reeled in by the RWD...

Agreed. The endless moronic questions and then, "no your answer isn't good enough" routine drives me nuts.

Time to rick roll this guy..
