Wal-Mart Unveils New Tractor-Trailer Design

I thought it was a joke, but it's apparently legit. Pretty cool.

I wonder how slim the chances of this making production are.

Damn that's gotta be expensive I doubt this will ever make it to production anytime soon carbon fiber still isn't cheap enough to produce yet. Its cool but not feasible and if walmart is able to do it then they will show how much they really are making.

$15.7 billion in 2011. It's not really hidden.

None the less, yeah, I was thinking that trailer must cost a fortune. I guess the weight reduction is aimed at lower fuel cost, along with the aero.

Looks like the future, as it was showed to us in the 80' and 90's, may finally be upon us.

I'm sure they will replace their entire fleet with these if it provides a solid ROI or exceeds their standards for a CBA

When you consider how many trucks they use and how often they are used and calculate the cost savings, I imagine there's a good chance

It uses a mini-turbine to generate power??? aren't turbines one of the least fuel efficient engines ever made??

I would think that the cost-savings would have to be HUGE to offset the production costs of these things. Wal-Mart seems to know how to grow money, so I have to think there's quite a bit to be gained here.

Can't forget the marketing aspect either. Could actually attribute some increase in sales down the road due to people liking these trucks.
