Again with the Transformers and the Imax and such!

Hi Everyone -

This may belong in another thread (sorry mods!) but I wanted to let everyone know that if you go see the new Transformers movie, see it in IMAX.

Why?

There is something extra cool in the imax version that you won't see in the standard version.

Most movies shown in IMAX are Up-converts from the original digital movie (no one uses film anymore, sigh). This is fine and looks fantastic.

Real Imax is a square, tall freggin' screen, but regular movies are shot in wide-screen 16:9 or 2.35:1 or sometimes even wider (super panavision).

What's cool about Transformers is that like The Dark Knight, certain scenes were actually shot in the the IMAX Format, and some CGI Rendered in the Imax format.

During the robot fight in the forest and again at the end of the film, you may not notice it but the movie format switches between these 2 formats. When the robots are fighting they are doing so in HUGE 4 STORY IMAX WOWNESS, and when they cut to the people it is back to Wide-screen.

You would think that the switching of formats would be distracting but not at all. It's pretty cool actually and lends itself to some interesting "emotional" impact.

Anyway, the movie's story is pretty weak and its pretty silly stuff this time around, but the movie was made for kids of course, and who cares anyway. This is Giant ass-kicking robots and Cool ass-kicking cars and super-sexy ass-kick Megan Fox looking freakin' HAWT.

If you go see the movie (chances are you have already but just in case) be sure to see it in IMAX, and watch for these scenes. Incredible clarity (despite the fake "noise" added to match the color and texture of the rest of the movie), and stun-ning detail.
