Random rant, "Profiling" is alive and well...

My wife is a dispatcher for a tow company... she got a call from a woman who wanted a tow through AAA. My wife told the customer that she was going to send Zeke, one of their best drivers. The woman flipped out, refused that driver, saying that she DID not want to be raped. Did she know Zeke? No... the name scared her, she said, "There's been trauma before (WTF?), and I am NOT going to risk it with somebody named "Zeke!" Reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy? There are people that stupid out there?

Who knows... I'm thinking "head" trauma, making her into a stupid idiot, but my wife said the woman hinted that there had "been a rape in her past" and therefore could not stand the idea of a "Zeke" coming out there. A follow up call had her say, "I don't want some Mexican punk coming out...!" The "happy" ending to this story is that she will end up waiting all damn day for her tow, since Zeke (an outstanding gentleman, I might add... a good friend, a good man) is the only driver available right now... I'm hoping she'll wait ALL damn day and into the evening, and have time to reflect upon her own foolish and unwarranted hate.

Rape trauma if that is what it is is not a controllable fobia, If she was indeed raped by a hispanic male, I can see her being fearful of being alone with one, you cant always decide to turn something like that off.

Can they offer to have someone else ride along? Maybe a female? Asking a police officer to come by during the tow shouldnt be a problem.

Rape is a tramatic effect, Ive seen rape victims who could not stand to be alone with a man, any man, not even her husband or father. It is a tramatic crime that often damages the victim mentally way more than any physical damage that is done.

I got more info... it's not even a tow for HER, it's for her daughter... her daughter "had a traumatic event" sometime in the past, so the caller, who rejected "Zeke," simply does not want a "Mexican punk" going out there. And, not that it makes a lick of difference... but Zeke (short for the Biblical "Ezekiel") isn't even Hispanic. If this woman wasn't hell bent on making sure that anybody with a possibly Hispanic name were avoided, she's get her white boy out there to safely tow her daughter's car. Oh, and the woman was fine with "Tim" going out there to tow her daughter's car... so I'm not going to buy the idea (at least in this instance) that the phobia is based on males, but is simply a bizarre racism.
