My speculation on 6th gen curb weight
This is just my speculation.
According to the press release of the NEW 2014 CTS, it weighs about 200 lbs less than the BMW 528i. The NEW CTS is on the stretched alpha platform . Car and driver says the 2012 BMW 528i has a curb weight of ~3,950. The PAST CTS tipped the scales at around 4,072 according to Car & Driver. Soooo... 3,950 (BMW weight) - 200 (how much the NEW CTS is supposed to weight) = 3,750 (weight of NEW CTS). 4,072 (OLD CTS weight) - 3,750 (weight of NEW CTS) = 322 lbs lighter. SO this is based ALL on speculation and probably isn't all that accurate. But I'm thinking the 6th gen could weight around 300-350 lbs less than the current Zeta based 5th gen. Thoughts? Here are the links I based calculations off of: 2014 CTS Press Release C&D Info on 2012 BMW 528i Info on old Zeta based CTS Here's some more information: Wheel base between the ATS and current Camaro is 3", ATS is 7.6" shorter and 1.7" taller (not like that really matters). I'd welcome a Camaro that has a similar wheel base and length. Oh and for the sake of the argument the 2013 Mustang GT has a wheelbase of 107" (5.2" less than the Camaro & 2.2" less than the ATS), the Mustangs overall length is 188.5" (1.9" shorter than the Camaro & 5.7" longer than the ATS). So I'm not too worried  Camaro Dimensions Cadillac Dimensions Mustang Dimensions

Yep...I agree.
Been saying it for awhile now. I fully expect the next gen Camaro to be around 300 lbs lighter, from base to V8 model. This based on the weight figures of the new ATS and the new CTS. I expect the next gen to be slightly smaller, but may not quite as small as the ATS. Not sure on that one.

What are you're assumptions based on for what the car is optioned out for? Is it a V8 with automatic, stick? What about weight for a possible V6 with twin turbo? or the possibility of the dreaded I4T?
Your looking at: V8 w/ auto, full options - 3650 V8 w/ stick, " " - 3600 V6 w/ auto, " " - 3550 V6 w/ stick, " " - 3500 I4T w/auto, " " - 3400 I4T w/stick, " " - 3350 These are just guesstimations based on what many have already speculated on. So, depending on how the car is optioned, it will affect the weight of the car.

Considering that the overall length of the '14 CTS is 195.5" while the ATS is 182.8", I'd frankly expect the alpha Camaro to slot closer to the ATS. The upcoming ATS coupe might give us a rough idea of the weight and dimensions of the Camaro. Some have speculated (hoped?) that we'll see an alpha Camaro and a stretched-alpha Chevelle. We shall see. |

Its really too early to say of course, but if the Camaro comes on the Alpha LWB (long wheel base) it may not lose as much weight as I'm hoping. Who knows.
Frankily, I'll be a bit dissapointed if there is a V6 version and it weighs 3,500+ lbs. If its quite a bit more than that, I'll be pretty unhappy.

I think it will be a SLIGHTLY smaller wheelbase, somewhere between the ATS and the new CTS leaning towards the ATS. I don't think the weight savings will come from shrinking, i think it will most likely come from materials used to build the car, hopefully taking some R&D from the corvette, to bring the weight down.

I dont see it gijng on streched platfrom. I feel quite confident based on rumars that it will have a shoter wheel base similar to the ats and mustang and weight will be close to the ATS. Remember the Camaro weighs less than the CTS so the extra weight if a V8 might be offset by the fact that a luxury car inherently will have more weight. We could very possibly see a sub 3500 lb V8 and it could be closer to 3400 lb.
