What should I do to my SS next?
2017 Camaro SS A8
CAI Full Headers and Exhaust (Borla AFTKA) E85 tune Puts down 465 RWHP on Premium and alittle over 500 on E85. 110k miles / original motor and Trans. Torque converter was replaced. Should I go heads / cam and stay NA or should I go big and supercharge? |

Intake manifold. MSD or ported LT2. Cam sounds good too

Op I would stay heads cam. The LT1 just isn’t a boost friendly setup imo. You do have the luxury to use e85 so that definitely helps so it wouldn’t be a terrible idea to super charge but I just feel these motors aren’t setup the best from factory to withstand boost. Port your stock heads and maybe rework them a bit, and throw a cam in it with supporting mods. I’d also go msd for your intake. You’ll make around 505 whp on 93 and 535 whp on e85.

I think a stage 2 or 3 cam with forged pistons while your down there will set up your engine to handle whatever choice you make next. That’s my plan after doing what you did, and after my engine warranty expires. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm surprised you haven't done throttle body and intake manifold yet. Those seem like relatively simple mods that many would do with your set up. Personally, on a car with 100k+ miles, a major change to FI just seems like it's kind of too late - too much investment for a car that you may not keep for another 5 years.

For a car with that amount of miles I would really want to get those DOD lifters replaced. They are a failure waiting to happen.

The first time around was at Aikman Performance in Cedar Park TX where it made: 424 HP on Premium 450 HP on E85 The second time around was at Peregrine Speed in Liberty Hill TX where I just recently had it tuned, it put down more power: 465 HP on Premium 500 HP on E85 I think it's real too, I can feel a big difference in power from the previous tune as well, but the guy who tuned it was also a good tuner and used to be a GM engineer. He was pointing out alot of flaws in my previous tune for both my SS and my 99 Z28 which is also in his shop preparing to be magnacharged. Last edited by Need4Camaro; Today at 08:34 PM. |
