Hey guys, so Ive got about 13k miles now on my 2SS M6. Daily driven, never raced. Do you guys think I should change out the diff fluid now or later? Is this the correct fluid?:

YES, I helped my buddy change his regular SS diff fluid at 5k and it was gross and had tiny particles. IMO these diffs should all get a fluid change pretty early on (under 2000 miles).

Buy two quarts and all the bolts you need are on the driver side simple drain and fill.

Clean the magnets and you are good to go, mine looked fine after 2k miles.

The dealer is extremely over priced for this service. I had a local shop do it way cheaper since I don't have my own place to do it.

I would change it but I wouldn't freak out about it either. I did a change at around 4500 miles and my fluid looked good (it was after and AutoX event). I have since open tracked the car and changed it to RP. The RP did 20 hours of track work before being changed and it looked very good at that time as well. I have never had dark fluid or particulate come out but I do run the car aggressively on the track so I keep up on the preventative maintenance.

Changed it yesterday. 13,164 miles. FILTHY, METALLIC, MESS. Change your fluid guys.

Yup...changed mine at around 15K. It was pretty nasty. I haven't decided how long I'm going to go between changes...I was thinking 20K after that initial--or at least checking it that often if nothing else.

The LSD in my rear makes noise when cold around turns. Changed diff fluid(1800 miles) and the noise got worse. So I changed it again and added a bottle of limited slip additive even though the fluid I used is premixed with it and it's better but still does it. I am wondering if I need to add more limited slip additive then what gm calls for.

I simply used the recommended fluid from the manual. Already has the limited slip additive. Are you using enough fluid?

After you drain the oil, put the pan with oil in it outside under direct sunlight. You'll be amazed at all the glitter from the particles! I have yet to do mine at only 1700mi.

Did a drain and fill ~1600 miles on mine before taking it to the track. Plenty of metal shavings in there from simple street driving. I second the comment about changing the fluid very early on!

I used Mobile 1 75-90 with LS additive. filled it until the fluid was right at the fill hole which is just over a quart. No metal shavings were in the original fluid. Just the gray sludge on the magnets and it was dark. Went out first thing after changing the fluid and the groan was horrible cold around turns and took a longer to go away.

So yesterday I went to Napa because they said that they carried the AC Delco fluid. I went there and it was Auto Track II TC fluid. I was pissed because I even gave them the part number over the phone. So I went ahead and purchased Valvoline 75-90 with LS additive and also grabbed a tube of Trans X LS additive. SO I drained the fluid again, added a half quart of diff fluid, then the tube of Trans X, and topped it off with DF. Went out and did figure 8's in the parking lot and the groan was gone. Honestly it was the smoothest this car has felt around turns in the 900 miles I have drove it.( I bought the car as a CPO 1 owner with 900 miles. The groan started around 1500 miles... It now has 1800 miles. I love the car, just hope it's not going to be plagued with little problems)

Anyway, I Let the car sit for 4-5hours, started it up, first turn the groan was back. However it went away fairly quick.

So I went ahead and ordered a couple quarts of AC Delco fluid with additive and I will try that. If groan persists I am taking it into the dealer under warranty.
