v6 1le or 1ss
so im on the fence here...much has to do with payment + insurance...but heres my dilemma
im thinking the v6 1LE...not a lot of open space here in western MA to use all 455hp... payment wise...a v6 1LE and 1SS probably arent far off...i suspect 30-50 dollar difference per month insurance wise...huge jump from a 6 to an 8 cyl... i'm not interested in mag ride as ive had multiple people tell me it takes away from the natural feel of handling...i drove a 1SS with npp and a roof and without mag ride and LOVED it.. im aware the v6 1LE basically is the 1SS shy of the bigger motor and a few other cosmetic things..so my question is....has anyone else been in this particular dilemma and how did you finally decide which bullet to bite?

The only advantage of the V6 1LE is the lower cost of insurance, gas savings and a few dollars cheaper car note.
Aside from that, the SS will give the V6 1LE a beat down in every performance measurement. You already drove the SS, go test drive a V6 1LE and then make a choice. The power difference (If that's something you're after) from a low 12 sec car to a mid-high 13 sec car is huuuge. |

In my opinion, the answer to that depends on YOUR intentions for the car...

If it's a vehicle you plan on keeping, the 1SS 1LE will hold its value on the far end better than the V6. That being said, if you only plan on keeping for a few years, the initial rate of depreciation on the SS will be greater, based on historical values.
Realistically get what will make you happy. The modern V6 has impressive power and is enough car for most any of us. I for one would feel that I settled, and the inevitable string of "Why only the V6" questioning would wear on me. It isn't the peer pressure itself, but me knowing I would rather have the SS. I can't see buying a performance car, even one with a performance suspension and handling package, without the performance engine. |

The mag-ride in my SS 1LE does not feel artificial in any way. This is compared to the Ohlins on my sportbike and the ANZE/Penske's in my Miata. The way the mag-ride allows for simultaneous quick weight transitions and big bump absorption is clearly superior to a high end passive damper....except perhaps if you pony up for Penske regressive valving, which is outside the dollar amount most are willing to spend on a car with a license plate.
Ok, onto your main questions. IMO it's going to come down to if you simply want the V8 and are willing to pay for the fuel and insurance. The V6 1LE you'll be able to wring out easier and not destroy your drivers license. Both the V6 1LE and 1SS have the same brakes, suspension, and tires, so that'll all feel the same. The big difference will be the visual differences and the powertrain. Have you driven a V6 Camaro yet? When you do, imagine that engine in how the 1SS felt in terms of handling and braking, and that'll be what the V6 1LE will be. My personal feeling about the V6 1LE is that it's best value proposition is in the 1LS trim so it's sticker price ($32,895) is way below a 1SS ($37,900). I suppose if you want to trade V8 for leather and interior goodies you can do a 2LT 1LE, which is a few hundred bucks less than a 1SS. So I think the question is; do you want the factory max-performance V6, or the equal-handling but otherwise considered "base model" V8? The model you choose might give you opportunities for a deal. A standard 1SS will likely be able to negotiate a nice discount, whereas any 1LE likely will be minimal to no discount, given their track-pack nature. I do think getting behind the wheel will answer all these questions for you. Good luck!

Remember guys we're comparing a v6 1le to a 1ss. Some seem to be getting off track. This is how ur decision should be made. V6 1le is only worth it if your using for autocross. The lower weight and better distribution will help, but staying under 60 mph keeps it competitive. If your not tracking your car, go 1ss all day!!! You say that you don't have room to open it up. Neither does most of us. the v8 is incredibly powerful and if you push it, your over the speed limit regardless. It's that feeling of power every single time you press the gas that will make you smile. The v6 won't do that. The 1ss will handle your twisty roads great! Unless the 1ss and the v6 1le are pushing at the limits, you won't see much of an advantage. I think the v6 1le has the same tire widths as the 1ss. So just put some pilot super sports on the 1ss and you got yourself a great weekend toy

If it was my decision, well we know what decision I made already...get the ss 1le. It's not much more money. And for what you get, you would never regret it. If your forking up the money for something like this, spend a few more bucks and get best of both worlds. The power, the handling. And above both cars, looks

The v6 1le has plenty of power and should be a slightly better handling car than the 1ss due to less weight.
If the extra power and sound aren't what you're after, go for the v6. I actually prefer the v6 front bumper myself. |

At Lightning lap, the V6 1LE ran 3:04 and the SS 1LE ran 2:54. That 6 secs is HUUUGE. The SS will be about ~3 seconds slower than the SS 1LE. http://www.caranddriver.com/features...d-more-feature |

I don't know what 1SS are going for right now but a few weeks ago there were V6 1LS/1LE's on cars.com for under $30K.

How can the 1SS be the better choice if he is on the edge of being able to afford it? |
