How much horsepower is enough?
These cars already have LOADS more power than you can use on the street, and I bet most of us aren't good enough drivers to fully exploit these cars on a track. The amount of power these cars are putting out is really insane, so how much hp is enough?
I doubt we are going to 1000 hp levels, so what is the next act in this show? |

i see more E-engines integrated for a nice short boost in hp for some acceleration ;-)
like Teslas they will show a combined hp of over 700hp with ease but not for long and the downsized engines with much rpmīs will ruin your good old US V8 tradition :-( |

For me, too much hp is just enough. I think having the most hp is just something for most owners to brag about. We're probably getting to the point now where folks are getting afraid to use the power they have. Alot of these cars rarely leave the garage, and when they do, they're babied. It's funny that with the amount of power the hellcat makes, I've only seen 2 at the track.

I am already planning to take mine to Redline Motorsports for at least another 150hp. It is not about the street. It is about the track and weekend fun.
If this is only a DD for you then this car is 10x more than you need. On the other hand, if you want something you can track AND drive to work on Monday.....enough is never enough. :-) |

I pulled up next to a Hello Kitty on Wednesday. He would not engage me for 2 red lights but when we got on the interstate, then he wanted to play. Obviously I didn't want to play then; funny thing is, we got back off the highway 15 miles later and caught another light....he acted like I wasn't even there(again).
Know your strengths is the moral of the story.

Don't care so much about HP or TQ. I care about how well the vehicle can take advantage of it.
If it's fast enough for me, then it has enough. The rest of it is for dyno queen comparos. |

I think the gen6 SS hits the sweet spot for a daily driver and envision not feeling the need to mod it for more.
Cars like the Z06, GT500 and Hellcat appear to be at, or over the edge of usable power and while I expect the 17 ZL1 to be more stable and useable, I believe we are seeing the peak right now. You could build something with more power but will need AWD to put it down so costs will soar.

I also believe we are seeing the peak of the horsepower wars. I believe more electric motors or hybrids will be in the future for sports cars.
