Recommendation of ZL1 daily driver tires
Good afternoon everyone,
I just traded in my SS for a ZL1 1LE. Great car! It's about that time to change out tires, and I'm having a dilemma in doing so. My goals are to drag the car about twice or maybe 3x a year, and the rest is just cruising and spirited driving around windy mountain roads. I don't have any intentions of taking my car to an actual track. Drag track, yes; not interested in road/lap tracks. This will be a fun car for the weekend. I've thought about Mickey's rear with Cup 2s front or just all PS4S. Are the PS4S really that bad for drag traction? What do you guys/gals recommend? I really appreciate any help you can provide. |

The PS4S is a 300 treadwear street tire, definitely not ideal for drag racing. However, if you only plan 2 events a year, I wouldn't compromise usability for the other 363 days with a 200 or 100 treadwear tire.
I think the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 would be a relatively cheap way to test the waters, it's an excellent 3-season all-rounder that has great dry and wet traction, so unless you're chasing record low ETs, you'll have fun at the drag strip, too. Oh, and it does come in ZL1 1LE sizes. The PS4S is an amazing tire, too, I still run it after 8 years, but it's more expensive and a bit long in the tooth, these new Contis perform a bit better in some tests now.

I have the PS4S now and I'm starting to like them as it's warmer here now and I can run the back roads as hard as I want too, feeling them out, it's my first set but I'm liking them A LOT.
I've run the ECS (not the new 02) on my previous 1LE and didn't not like them, the car hard push on the front like the sidewall flexed too much and too a second before it would bite and that was with the push on the front end. Would not buy that tire again. This and that set of tires wouldn't take a tire dressing worth a damn and always just looked crappy. I daily my ZL1 365 and have a separate winter wheel and tire (Alpin PA4) setup that I run from about mid November - March. |
