Cool 2016 V6 MT Rear Diff Swap to V8 MT Rear Diff

So my new to me Rear carrier Diff is bad. Instead of replacing it with another used one with the same problem I am told the V8 Rear Diff will bolt right in. The questions I have are, What will my current TR3160 trans do with the 3.73 ratio V8 diff? The V8 has the TR6060 trans which I know has a different gearing to it than the TR3160 which has the 3.27 Rear Diff currently. I used to know of a website that would convert any gear you put in and tell you the outcome to the wheels. Or should I just keep looking for a low mile 3.27 stock Rear Diff?

There is no Camaro Team anymore so moving this thread to the transmission/driveline section.

Swapping in a 3.73 rear end would certainly improve acceleration on the V6. You’ll have to change make changes in the tune to compensate but that shouldn’t be the end of the world. That said, a replacement V6 diff will be easier and cheaper since you won’t need to play with the tune.

Finding a V6or 2.0T MT rear diff is nearly impossible. And GM doesn't have any more to sell new. I spent several months looking before I found one. Most of the ones available are from AT cars. As for what is needed to swap over to a 3.73 SS diff, you will need the axles and then you might need to swap over the diff yoke. The yoke is just clipped on with a snap ring, once removed you might need a little tap on the yoke backside to knock it loose and then it will come off the splines. And then as Joshinator said, tune for the gearing change.

I have just completed the swap on my 2.0AT to the 2.0MT. It is really easy to do.

I can't seem to find a information on the two different transmissions manual gear ratio's either. I know the V6 uses the TR3160 and the SS V8 uses the TR6060. On a mustang page they list these, but they each have different gear ratio's through the gears and this will change even more to the tires. Do you know if the Camaro's are3 the same?

Why would you need a tune? Computer sensors won't read correct on revolutions and such. Where do you go to get it tuned? Chevy dealership?

So I decided to keep with the stock rear diff and I found a low mile salvage yard one with 21k on it. I was going to go with amsoil 70/90 gear oil with redline LS additive. Unless there are some better oils out there someone will recommend.

OP most or all of this response may be useless and not apply to 6th gen cars but on the 5th generation cars if you got a V6 with manual trans, it received the same rear axles and size of diff as the SS. Therefore, when Richmond offered a performance 3.73 rear gear for the SS I knew it should bolt right into my 2010 V6RS, and it did. The numerically higher gear results in a slightly higher reading on the speedo. Increased by 10% on my car going from the OE 3.27.
I don't know if Chevy employed any of those cost cutting ideas on the 6th gen,
but I'd definitely do it again- yes 1st gear did become a "granny gear" but 2nd gear became a screaming fun park ride around town. Especially after I had a centrifugal supercharger installed that put 400hp to the rear wheels. If you can find a way to get it done, I believe you won't regret the bigger gear.

I guess since this has been bumped by someone else, I'll just come in and say this swap is not only possible but quite easy.

What you need:

1. 3.73:1 Non-eLSD w/ cooler (if you have 1LE package)
2. 3.73:1 Non-eLSD wo/ cooler (if you don't have 1LE package)

Additional Work:

1. You must remove the 3.73:1 axle stubs from the donor 3.73:1 differential and install the ones removed from your 3.27:1 differential.
