Smelly Recaro seats - odor won’t go away
Hey guys, I have a ‘22 SS 1LE and the Recaro seats have had a smell since day 1.
The smell sticks to clothes, it smells kind of plasticky/sour and won’t go away. So far I have wet vacuumed the seats twice professionally, which made it a bit better for a bit before the smell came back. I used Sonax odor eliminator spray, which masked the smell for a bit before it came back. I had the car ozone treated twice now and the smell still persists and sticks to my shirt and pants even after a short 5 minute drive. Has anyone had experience with eliminating odor from these seats? The next step I’m thinking of is getting a hardcore, enzymatic odor eliminator designed for pets etc (that is safe to use on fabric) and just spray it daily. Any tips would go a long way as it’s been this way for months and it’s frustrating to say the least. Thank you! |

you can try one of these.
I know they get alot of praise for how well it works at removing not covering smells https://biobombs.com/collections/aut...dorization-kit

Wow. How about a warranty claim?
If they won't replace them I'd try an ozone treatment. Some car detail shops may be familiar.

And I dont think I can have it warranty claimed due to smell, but I can definitely go to the dealer and try! Thanks for the idea Quote:
I've heard about those but as far as Ive heard Ozone treatment works better than these |

Sorry, missed that. I think it's 100% a manufacturing defect, or maybe something happened in assembly. like a chem got spilled. It sounds like there's some chance whatever it is is toxic, or at least tell the service manager you think it's a health hazard. If they won't replace them I'd get ones from a junkyard. After all you've done I don't think anything is going to work. I've never heard anyone else with this issue.

I think you might be right. Thank you for the advice, I'll book an appointment with the dealership and see if they can do something about it. I don't think its toxic, but I will definitely try and convey that haha |

My wife's car is a 22 1LE and she complains about this. I think it's part of the new car smell, which I love. The problem is when it sticks to your clothes it makes the clothes smell like pee, which is pretty disgusting. Have yet to find a solution.

I’ve recently had it wet vacuumed again several times in a row with warm water and laundry agent and it seems to have made a difference! After that I sprayed it down with laundry perfume and let it “cook” in the sun for a day, closed, before airing it out. Seems to have made a big impact |

I think my 1LE smells like exhaust gas or something. And I get a smell on my shirt etc. but it doesn’t smell sour. I bought my car new and I thought it was new car smell also. I took it into the dealer so they could check it out. They said they didn’t ever smell anything. I did use a Chemical Guy water proofing type treatment on the Alcantara. I’m not sure if it’s from that.
