Thanks guys.
I did some research and it confirms that on ZL1 (incl. 1LE) cars rotors, pads AND calipers are all different with the copper vs. non-copper brakes. So a conversion is off the table for me.

I could buy a copper brake equipped 1LE from out of state and according to a GM bulletin, I should be able to register it here, even though it's a "non-compliant" car. It'll only become an issue as soon as you want to service the car in CA. Not a big issue for me..

Btw: Which brake system does actually offer better performance?
I guess the copper one is a bit lighter and a better fit for 18inch rims. Does the non-copper one offer better and more stable performance though?
