The ability is enabled in iOS 12 (even the betas) but it is up to the app developers, specifically Google for Waze and Google Maps, to update their apps accordingly for comparability.

As a beta tester for Waze, and an iOS 12 beta user, the compatibility ability for Waze, and Google Maps, has not yet been updated.
