I'm sure you could have your cake and eat it too with some electric valves to really adjust the sound waves. much like a cutout. Dont know of anyone who's cared enough to go that route.
Drone is resonating of the car's body by the exhaust, so you can combat it with adding a lot of dynomat to the trunk area and rear body of the cabin under the rear seats and such. However, that will add a lot of weight. That's an alternative to a more scientific solution that would be needed for tuning the exhaust to shift the sounds so no resonating occurs.
