The top part is dificult to replace. I think it's welded on according to this video. I also wanted to replace the top part but realized I couldn't unless a professional takes it off. The video is for leather replacement of the door parts but you can see him burn the wielding off the top part in order to put a leather piece on. Look at 4:35 in the video:
