That's pretty sad, and please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to sound off on you or minimize the issue I know how difficult it is to find a good dealership, as I'm also in the process of looking for a reliable and quality one after our recent interstate move.

Competence or lack thereof is obviously a problem, but these "ethics" are an order of magnitude worse, an absolute dealbreaker and you're doing well to make as much noise about what happened as you are.
