This FLAC vs mp3 at various bitrates often stirs strong opinions.
I would suggest checking out some of the many A/B listening tests available online and see what you can really hear. Mp3 encoding has come a long way.
As storage got cheap and my digital library grew I contemplated switching to FLAC, but settled on mp3 320 at CBR for smaller file size and more universal compatibility. Some players still don't like VBR.
