My hunch is that for the litigious-happy America in which we live in the 21st century, GM disabled the remote window roll up function so no one gets their hand caught in the window while someone's rolling it up then files a lawsuit against General Motors.
I've already asked my dealer about it and they have "no clue". Sure.
