A part of the insurance rate is based on the history a car model has. Higher end models like a ZL1 aren’t owned by as many younger drivers as the more affordable models are. Since younger people are more likely to do dumb stuff with a high performance car than people that have been driving them for a long time to the insurance company it could look like the ZL1 is cheaper to insure than the SS for example due to higher accident rates in the SS.

My insurance dropped ~35% going from a 2012 M3 to a 2020 ZL1 that is worth twice as much but there’s probably some new safety equipment 8 years later that helped some. I was really shocked when I found out how cheap it was for a car this capable
