I think you may be right, about ZL1s and/or ZLEs being trucked regardless of distance. The 500-mile range applies more other builds in general based on what I recall reading.

What I'm finding interesting, is I assumed that once loaded on a train it would ride the rails until it gets to a railyard closest to the destination. For me, I figured mine would go via rail to Minneapolis/St. Paul. However, my dealer indicates it will leave the rail somewhere in Wisconsin and then come the rest of the way via truck...

Not sure if that is due to needing a specialized railyard to unload the car, a contractual cost-savings mechanism GM has in place with regional railyards, or some other reason. No specifics thus far on where in WI it will leave the rail, but seems kind of odd.

From a time, risk (of damage loading/unloading), and amount of handling involved, a truck shipment seems like it would be more effective in this situation, but who knows.
