The A10 has more than one planetary gear sets it uses to provide the different ratios. The gear sets are probably what is making the whine.

The teeth on the gears are cut at an angle and that angle is probably straight enough to make them robust enough to handle the torque input, but yet at such an angle not to be to loud.

Does anyone remember the Muncie M22 Rock Crusher? It whines like a grain truck transmission.

Same cause, the angle the gears are cut.

The sound of strength.
