It's not inflation.
$500 last year is the same as $503 today.
More than likely GM either intentionally had a lower introductory price to get the buzz going, and always intended to increase the price in the years down the road. HyperBlue was likely meant to also create buzz, get people wanting it, thinking "I'll order that for 2017!" and then spring a combined $900 price increase on them. It's just normal tactics.
