I'm pretty sure the directional arrows and the bogey counter are very helpful. The new Gen2 design looks much better as well.

At the end of the day it's expensive, though, which is understandable, but I eventually chose a Uniden DFR9 that is very close to an R3 with somewhat less range and the RJ-45 jack properly (!!!) on the right side for $230.

Having pestered Uniden support to no avail about upgrades, I was pleasantly surprised towards the end of last year when they did release a new firmware that essentially solves the only problem I had with the detector, the amount of false K band positives from blind spot monitoring systems and object detectors in other cars. The new firmware cuts down on these dramatically, can drive my usual routes with zero false positives (I recall one single K band alert since I upgraded the unit, and I didn't see anything around in that case, but who knows, it may have been real).
